You know what struck me first about HOTEL MYSTAYS Otemae? It’s tucked into this quiet corner of Chuo-ku where you can actually hear yourself think – which, honestly, is pretty rare in Osaka. The building itself is understated in that distinctly Japanese way, nothing flashy, but there’s something reassuring about walking into a lobby that doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard to impress you.

The location is actually brilliant once you figure out the neighborhood. I mean, Tokui-Cho isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot that everyone talks about, but that’s sort of the point. You’re a quick walk from Temmabashi Station (maybe 7-8 minutes if you don’t get turned around like I did the first time), and from there you can hop on the Keihan line straight to Kyoto or catch the subway deeper into Osaka. What I really appreciated was being close enough to the castle area without dealing with all the tour group chaos – you can walk to Osaka Castle Park in about 15 minutes, but you’re far enough away that you’re not hearing tour guides with megaphones at 8 AM.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place – clean, functional, with that slightly firm bedding that Japanese hotels do so well. Nothing fancy, but honestly, the AC works great (crucial in summer), the shower has decent water pressure, and there’s enough space to actually open your suitcase without playing furniture Tetris. I stayed on the 8th floor and could see bits of the city between other buildings – not exactly a Instagram-worthy view, but pleasant enough. The staff at check-in was genuinely helpful, not just polite-helpful, and they spoke enough English to sort out my questions about nearby convenience stores and the best route to Dotonbori (which, by the way, is about 20 minutes by subway, not the end of the world like some people make it sound).

What really won me over were the small things that make a difference when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The elevators are quick, the hallways are quiet even when the hotel seems full, and there’s a decent-sized Family Mart just around the corner for those late-night snack runs. The business center in the lobby isn’t much to look at, but the printer works and they don’t charge you an arm and a leg for basic services. I also noticed they keep the common areas genuinely clean – not just surface-level tidy, but actually clean, which you notice more when you’re jet-lagged and paying attention to weird details.

Look, this isn’t going to be the hotel you brag about to friends back home, but it’s the kind of place that lets you focus on why you came to Osaka in the first place. The neighborhood feels authentic, you’re well-connected to everything you want to see, and you’re not paying premium prices for location. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need – a comfortable base that doesn’t get in the way of your actual trip.

  Great location. Close to Tanimachi station. There is a Boulangerie & Cafe Gout i would highly recommend for breakfast.
  
  Hotel itself is a little aged. The room we had must had been an apartment before, and rooms were section off with sliding doors. There is a washer. But i would advice you to take your cloths down to the laundry room to dry them. There are kitchen essential so you can cook at site. Good size French style fridge with freezer We were totally surprised as there was a rice cooker! So just like the pictures, the room is separated into bedrooms, living/dining room, and bathroom
  
  There is also a market nearby and they have great bentos!
  
  What could be improved: Room is a bit dated.

  The location is about 5 mins walk from Osaka castle. Around 10 mins walk from subway station. The room is clean and equipped with a small cooking area. The building itself is a bit old though. Restaurants are within walking distance. There is a fire station nearby and sometimes the alarm is loud.

  Large room, great comfortable bed, amazing location. The room was very good for 2 people, the kitchen had everything we needed and everything wad almost perfect with the room.
  
  Additionally, very central location 5 minutes from the tanimachi-4-chome subway station.
  
  What could be improved: The door arches were too low, and we kept banging our heads every time we passed through them. Also, the hotel's staff leaves a lot to be desired. One staff member was extremely passive aggressive and made us feel a little uncomfortable.
