Here’s what locals probably won’t tell you: the hotel’s restaurant gets packed during lunch with businesspeople from the surrounding offices, but if you time it right around 2 PM, you can usually snag a quiet table. The breakfast buffet is solid – nothing revolutionary, but they do this Japanese-Western fusion thing that works, especially their rolled omelets. And honestly? The staff here seems genuinely happy to help rather than just going through the motions, which you notice more when you’re trying to navigate a city where your language skills are… let’s say limited. The concierge actually drew me a little map to find the entrance to Osaka Station that connects to the Shinkansen – turns out there are like six different ways to enter that place, and most of them are wrong if you’re heading to Tokyo. One thing though – parking here isn’t cheap, but then again, you really don’t need a car. Everything you want is either walkable or a quick train ride away. Dotonbori is maybe 15 minutes on the subway, Osaka Castle about the same. The hotel sits right in that sweet spot where you can stumble back after exploring the nightlife in Shinsekai without breaking the bank on taxi fare, but you’re not stuck in a tourist bubble either.

  This is a very neat location with great rooms and excellent staff.
  
  What could be improved: Not at all about the hotel, but for other travelers: Be aware that this is a relatively upscale part of Osaka, so you might have to travel to a different neighborhood for meals if you're traveling on a budget.

  The room was spacious by Japanese standards. The bathroom was decent size as well. Different decor than any other hotel we stayed in during our trip to Japan. Also, fairly close to the train station.

  This older style hotel is designed to look like an older classic Austrian venue in its décor and various sitting rooms. We stayed in 3 Monterey chains throughout Japan. They all differed in design, but the breakfasts were quite similar and very good. This hotel has a charming open courtyard with tables and chairs and a very old chapel. The hotel is in an excellent location that is a short walk from the JR train station. The front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful.
