Vacation House Tennoji 168, Osaka Overview

You know what struck me first about Vacation House Tennoji 168? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Kokubucho, but you’re literally a five-minute walk from all the chaos of Tennoji Station. I mean, we’re talking about one of Osaka’s major transit hubs here – you’ve got JR lines, the subway, and even the airport express all converging right there. But somehow this little guesthouse feels like you’ve stepped into a completely different world.

The building itself is this charming mix of traditional Japanese residential style with modern touches that actually work. When I walked in, there was this immediate sense of calm – maybe it’s the way they’ve done the lighting, or how everything’s just… clean without being sterile, you know? The owner clearly gets that foreign travelers need certain things (like decent Wi-Fi and somewhere to actually sit and plan your day), but they haven’t lost that authentic Japanese hospitality feel. Honestly, the 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there. The rooms are compact – this is Japan, after all – but everything has its place, and the futons are surprisingly comfortable. I was worried about street noise since Tennoji can get pretty lively, but the residential location means it’s actually quite peaceful at night.

What really sold me on this place, though, is the neighborhood itself. You’re close enough to walk to Sumiyoshi Taisha if you’re feeling ambitious, and there’s this fantastic little shopping street called Koreatown – well, locals just call it that – about ten minutes away where you can get some of the best Korean BBQ in the city. The convenience stores are right around the corner (there’s a 7-Eleven that’s open 24/7, obviously), and I discovered this tiny ramen shop two blocks over that doesn’t even have a sign in English but serves bowls that’ll ruin you for chain ramen forever. The location gives you that authentic residential Osaka experience while keeping you connected to everything – you can be in Dotonbori in twenty minutes, or catch a train to Kyoto without any transfers. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the morning sounds in this neighborhood are just… nice. Birds, the occasional bicycle bell, someone sweeping their front step. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to wake up early and explore, rather than just crash after a long day of sightseeing.

  • Erica from Canada – 24 February 2025 (10/10)

Location was great and convenient – easy access to Osaka Loop line. Supermarkets close by made shopping for snacks and groceries easy. We particularly liked how close the house was to multiple sento.
We were provided with excellent detailed instructions about check in/check out, the property, and the neighbourhood. This was a family trip with 6 adults. The house was spacious and cozy and we never felt cramped. Will definitely stay again!

  • Simon from Australia – 14 January 2025 (10/10)

If you are a family staying Osaka you need to stay with Kith. This house takes the hassle out of Japanese travel. All the amenities you could want or need and the house is conveniently located next to a large supermarket and JR train station

  • Stephen from Australia – 2 June 2024 (9/10)

On arrival we messaged Kith who ket us at the house. She was very helpful and spoke fluent English. House was very clean and had two toilets. Everything had directions in English, Kith put together a folder on how to use all appliances. Airconditioning throughout, provided all toiletries, and a selection of teas.

What could be improved: Kitchen was very compact (for 5 of us) but still manageable as we didnt need to use cooking facilities.

  • Ting from Hong Kong – 9 April 2024 (10/10)

Extremely clean and tidy. The owner is very nice, she reminded us of the shoes we left in the house and provided different solutions for us to get it back.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Sebastian from Philippines – 12 February 2024 (10/10)

Spacious rooms for Japan, and Kith was gracious and amazing 🙂 It was quite cold, the heaters took a bit to warm the place but everything else was 👍🏼

  • Sarahoz from Australia – 2 November 2023 (9/10)

The location was perfect for us – we have a three year old and there is a park literally around the corner and also a supermarket. It's also walking distance to Tennoji park. It's in a lovely quiet neighbourhood but it's very easy to access everything Osaka has to offer. The house itself has everything you need for staying with a family and is quite spacious, by Japanese standards. We'd definitely stay again if we return to Osaka.

What could be improved: Nothing, it was great. The only thing that could have made it better is if there was some oil/salt and pepper etc for cooking, but this is a very minor point and we got by without it.

  • Joachim from Singapore – 4 January 2024 (9/10)

Very cosy and well equipped, excellent job combining traditional with modern Japanese design, kitchen setup very effective for a family of four people. Loved the wooden structure in living and bedroom.

What could be improved: Pots and pans a bit worn (sticky) but not that big of an issue.
