So I stumbled across the Tycq Nagahashi TY Residence during one of those late-night booking sessions where you’re just scrolling through options in Osaka, and honestly? This place surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Nagahashi – and I mean actually quiet, not that fake “peaceful oasis” thing hotels always claim. You know how some places in Osaka can get pretty rowdy, especially if you’re near the main tourist drags, but this area feels like where actual people live their lives.

The building itself is pretty typical for modern Japanese residential architecture – clean lines, nothing flashy, but there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that doesn’t scream “tourist hotel.” I mean, the name is a bit of a mouthful (good luck explaining “Tycq” to anyone), but once you’re inside, it makes sense why they went with the “residence” part. The rooms have this lived-in quality that’s way more comfortable than sterile business hotels. Mine had this little kitchenette setup that actually worked – like, the burner heated up properly and there were real dishes, not plastic ones. Small thing, but when you’re staying more than a couple nights, being able to make coffee without those terrible instant packets is a game changer.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out. The guy at the front desk (older gentleman, super patient with my terrible Japanese) gave me directions to this little ramen spot about three blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise – no English sign, just a blue curtain and the best tonkotsu I had all week. That’s the kind of local intel you don’t get at the big chain places. The location itself is actually pretty strategic if you know Osaka at all. You’re close enough to catch the subway without dealing with the chaos around Namba or Umeda, but far enough out that you can walk around at night without dodging drunk salarymen and tour groups. I walked to the convenience store at like 11 PM and it felt totally normal, not touristy-weird.

Now, it’s definitely a 3-star place – don’t go in expecting luxury touches or anything fancy. The WiFi was solid, the shower had decent water pressure, and my room stayed quiet even when I could hear people in the hallway. But the elevator is tiny (like, suitcase-plus-one-person tiny) and the lobby is pretty minimal. For a 7.8 rating, though, I get it – it does what it’s supposed to do without any major issues. I’d actually stay here again, especially if I was doing one of those longer Osaka trips where you want to feel less like a tourist passing through and more like you’re just… living somewhere for a while. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  Apartment was a large size that completely matches the phones. It was clean and in great condition! The host also provided a detailed instruction manual with all of the necessary details on how things work
  
  What could be improved: The location isn't wow. It's about 15 minutes walk to the nearest metro. It's located in a small alley which can be difficult to find if you just follow Google maps. I wouldn't say it's right in the centre but good if you want to save money.
  
  No tea or coffee was provided which would have been nice to have. Also a rack to hang towels near the shower would make sense.

  Quiet neighborhood.Few nice fast-food places around, a supermarket, and a metro 10 min walk. The beds are super comfortable. Best value for that size of apartment. The only thing that was missing was iron and iron board .

  It’s relatively large with two very comfortable large beds, a small living room and dining table. I love how the shower is separated from the toilet with the sink in between.
  
  What could be improved: The owner advised that we should not take the trash out since it need to be sorted by the cleaning staff first, however, when it was full, I contacted the owner and he did not respond. However, I kept it outside my door and the cleaning staff collected it after few days.
  
  The location is in the middle of Osaka but it’s 15 mins walk away from the nearest train station or metro. It would be great if you have a bike, but I don’t since I’m a tourist.

  Apartment is super cosy. There are 2 comfortable beds and also everything you need in the flat. It was fun to cook and super quiet for sleep. Neighbourhood is friendly, there are shops and restaurants close to apartment. I totally recommend to stay here when you come to Osaka.

  I got to see part of Osaka I wouldn’t have otherwise.
  
  What could be improved: I was charged 6000 yen for cleaning fee. No mention of that before I paid. Not impressed at all. No coffee or tea. No cups. The kettle didn’t have anywhere handy to plug in. Wifi was sporadic.
