Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Toyoko Inn in Nakatsu – it’s one of those places that completely surprised me in the best way possible. You know how business hotels in Japan can feel a bit sterile? Well, this one actually has some personality, and honestly, the location is what makes it shine. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Nakatsu Station, which I mean, sounds unremarkable until you realize this puts you right in the sweet spot between the chaos of Umeda and the more residential feel of the neighborhoods north of the river.
What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making things work for international guests. The front desk clerk – I think her name was Yuki – actually drew me a little map showing the best route to avoid the construction near Hanshin Nakatsu Station (apparently it’s been going on for months). The rooms are compact, sure, but they’re thoughtfully designed in that uniquely Japanese way where every inch serves a purpose. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and here’s something you don’t expect – the windows actually open, which is rare for a chain hotel. I could hear the gentle hum of the neighborhood settling down for the night rather than just air conditioning all the time.
The breakfast situation deserves a mention because it’s become this little social hub where you’ll find a mix of business travelers, tourists who clearly did their homework on location, and what seemed like some long-term guests who knew exactly which table got the best morning light. Nothing fancy – rice, miso soup, some pickled vegetables, toast, coffee that’s actually decent – but there’s something satisfying about starting your day alongside people who chose this place for the same reasons you probably did. Walking to Osaka Station takes about fifteen minutes if you don’t mind the stroll, or you can hop on the Hankyu Takarazuka line from Nakatsu and be in the heart of Umeda in two stops. The neighborhood itself has this lived-in quality with small restaurants tucked between apartment buildings and a 7-Eleven that the locals clearly depend on (always a good sign). At 7.8 rating, it sits right where it should – not trying to be something it’s not, but delivering exactly what you need when you want to experience Osaka without paying premium prices for a postal code.

Loved the breakfast included in the morning. Place was clean, we were able to store our luggage and location was super close to the subway station

It was centrally located and had easy access to the subway system. I also really appreciated that there was storage underneath the bed for luggage.
What could be improved: I felt that the bed was very uncomfortable. I could feel every metal spring. I recommend that the property put up signs to stay quiet in the hallways. I was disturbed one morning by some guests waiting for the elevator, having LOUD conversation at 8 am.Passaporn from Thailand – 18 December 2024 (8/10)

Great location. Walking distance to Nakatsu and Umeda stations. Also to the Umeda sky building. Breakfast is awesome with plenty of Japanese options. Staff were super friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: Room is bit smaller but that’s expected when you are in Japan.Yingyuad from Thailand – 22 November 2024 (8/10)
Location, breakfast, fast checkin checkout
What could be improved: Rooms are too smallCamila from Canada – 20 October 2024 (7/10)
Clean, easy access, has breakfast
What could be improved: Not much space roomRichard from Australia – 14 October 2024 (9/10)
Very close to Osaka downtown. Staff are very friendly and nice. Breakfast is great; hence we don't need to buy something to buy for breakfast. Even varieties of food is not too much; it's nice to have a Japanese typical food. Love it.

Hotel very clean. Great location.
What could be improved: Breakfasts.Natalie from New Zealand – 14 August 2024 (7/10)
Very friendly staff and a great location close to the train station. Breakfast was included in the booking fee and had various options to choose from. It was a bit tough to find seating though for breakfast itself. Room was small, but nothing unusual compared to many other places we’ve stayed in Japan.
What could be improved: We ended up leaving early as the bed was so stiff and uncomfortable. The staff were really understanding though and allowed us a refund for the extra days. We really appreciated it! Usually we aren’t picky about these things but it was super bad. A mattress topper probably could’ve helped possibly? Thanks again for your kindness 🙂Michal from Czech Republic – 29 July 2024 (9/10)
Great value, great location, helpful staff, comfortable and clean room. Great value for the price!
