THE SINGULARI HOTEL & SKYSPA at UNIVERSAL STUDIOS JAPAN Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much from a hotel that’s basically attached to a theme park. Usually those places are all about location and nothing else, you know? But The Singulari actually surprised me in the best way possible. Walking into the lobby, there’s this sleek, almost futuristic vibe that somehow doesn’t feel cold or sterile. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful (not just going through the motions), and they actually remembered my name when I passed by later – which, let’s face it, doesn’t happen often at hotels this size.

The real game-changer here is that Skyspa situation on the upper floors. I mean, after spending a full day getting tossed around on roller coasters and fighting crowds for Butterbeer, soaking in those thermal baths while looking out over Osaka Bay was… well, it was exactly what I didn’t know I needed. The spa gets busy around 7-8 PM when everyone’s dragging themselves back from the parks, but if you go up around 10 PM it’s much more peaceful. And honestly? The view from up there at night is something else – you can see the Universal globe all lit up, plus the port lights stretching out toward the water. The rooms themselves are solid without being fancy – comfortable beds, blackout curtains that actually work (crucial when you’re exhausted), and surprisingly good soundproofing considering you’re literally next to a theme park. I barely heard any screaming from the Jurassic Park ride, which is saying something since that thing runs until 9 PM.

What really makes this place work is the location – and I don’t just mean being steps from Universal. You’re in Konohana-ku, which most tourists completely skip, but there’s actually some great local spots if you venture out. There’s a family-run ramen place about a 10-minute walk toward the port that locals hit up after work, and the Sumiyoshi Taisha shrine is just a quick train ride away if you want to escape the theme park madness for a bit. The hotel’s restaurant is decent but pricey (theme park pricing, what can you say), though room service was faster than expected and the katsu sandwich was actually pretty good. Parking was straightforward, which is rare in Osaka, and they validate for the Universal lots if you’re planning to drive to the parks. The only real downside? The elevators get absolutely slammed during peak check-in and check-out times – I’m talking 15-minute waits sometimes. But honestly, for the price point and that spa access alone, it’s worth dealing with a few minor inconveniences. If you’re doing the Universal thing and want somewhere to actually relax afterward instead of just crash, this is your spot.

I liked the location, it was right in front of the Universal City station and at the end of Universal City Walk. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. I love their toiletries, smells so good.

What could be improved: Nothing really.

  • Alessandro from Spain – 11 June 2025 (9/10)

All was great, was the best stay we stayed in whole Japan trip.
Really good room, spacious, one thing is missing in a lot of hotels.
And to experience Onsen is 10/10.

  • Sarah from Australia – 9 June 2025 (9/10)

Very conveniently located next to the Universal train station and a three minute walk to Universal Studios. Superior onsen and breakfast experience. Couldn’t fault it.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Masato from Japan – 9 June 2025 (9/10)

It was great. Clean, modern, close to the train station and close to the park. Check in was smooth and easy as was check out. They took our bags hours before check in and had them waiting in our room for us. We brought takeout into our room for dinner and didn’t want to keep food garbage in the room so we called down to the front desk to find out where we could throw it away. Moments later someone came to take our garbage for us.

What could be improved: I have zero complaints. If I had to be picky I would say in our room there were four sets of slippers, four sets of pajamas, four sets of tooth brushes but only four sets of towels. Which I didn’t understand. We were only three people so it was okay but to be honest I would have liked the extra towel to dry my long hair and because there was four of everything else I don’t understand why there weren’t four towels. But it was fine I made due with one towel and I’m sure I could have gotten another towel had I asked so that doesn’t take away from the quality of the hotel.
Previously we had stayed at a different Universal city hotel which was also great but I think next time we visit we will stay here again. It was a really great value for the price we paid.

  • Alexandra from Finland – 3 June 2025 (9/10)

The Skyspa is amazing. The breakfast has authentic Japanese food so we really liked it. The location of the hotel is amazing, right next to the train station and the Universal park.

What could be improved: Maybe after a few day it would be great to have some breakfast food changed.

  • Zania from United Kingdom – 28 May 2025 (9/10)

There’s a spa. The room is spacious including the bathroom. The shower is hot and powerful. The staff are helpful and kind. This is my second visit so I’m a returning customer. I would like to return real soon.

What could be improved: The freezer of the fridge doesn’t work. It didn’t work last year either. The spa has very young children who seem to use the place like a swimming pool so maybe there should be supervision or young children shouldn’t be allowed to use the spa.

  • Arleen from United States – 28 May 2025 (9/10)

Absolutely was the best choice for location, convenience and comfort if you are going to the World Expo. Taxi in with no worries and eat just steps away.
