Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from an apartment-style place in Sumiyoshi, but SYO Heights 301 completely changed my mind about staying outside Osaka’s main tourist zones. The three-bedroom setup is actually perfect if you’re traveling with family or friends – there’s enough space that everyone can spread out without tripping over each other’s luggage, which, let’s be real, is half the battle when you’re sharing accommodation.

What really won me over was how the place feels like you’re living in an actual Osaka neighborhood rather than just visiting one. You know what I mean? In the morning, you’ll hear the local delivery trucks making their rounds and the distant chatter from the nearby residential streets – it’s that authentic slice of daily Japanese life that you miss when you’re stuck in a hotel in Namba or Dotonbori. The building itself is solid, none of that paper-thin wall nonsense where you hear every conversation from next door. I mean, you might catch the occasional footstep from upstairs, but nothing that’ll keep you awake. The kitchen is surprisingly well-equipped too – they’ve actually thought about what people need to cook real meals, not just heat up convenience store ramen (though honestly, the nearby 7-Eleven has some pretty decent options if you’re feeling lazy).

Getting around from here is easier than you’d think. The Sumiyoshi area connects to central Osaka without the chaos of staying right in the thick of things, and you’ll save a decent chunk of money compared to those overpriced places near Osaka Station. Plus – and this is something I only figured out after staying a few nights – you’re walking distance from some fantastic local spots that most tourists never see. There’s this little family-run tempura place about ten minutes away that doesn’t even have an English menu, but the owner’s wife will somehow communicate exactly what you need to order. The apartment’s rating of 9.3 makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days; it’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything works exactly as it should. Check-in was straightforward, the AC keeps the place comfortable even during Osaka’s brutal summer humidity, and there’s enough storage space that you won’t be living out of your suitcase the entire time. If you’re the type who needs to be within stumbling distance of Shinsaibashi, this probably isn’t your spot, but if you want to experience Osaka like someone who actually lives there while having a comfortable, spacious place to retreat to, SYO Heights delivers.
