You know what caught me off guard about Sky Living Shinsaibashi East? It’s actually tucked away on this quieter stretch of Matsuyamachi, which honestly feels like a gift when you’re trying to escape the madness of central Shinsaibashi. I mean, you’re still close enough to walk to all the action – Dotonbori’s maybe 15 minutes on foot if you cut through the side streets – but at night, you’re not dealing with drunk salarymen stumbling around outside your window. The building itself has that clean, minimalist vibe that Japanese hotels do so well, though it’s definitely more “modern apartment living” than “traditional hospitality.” Don’t expect anyone to bow deeply when you walk in, but the front desk staff actually seem to know what they’re talking about when you ask for directions.

The rooms are what you’d call smart rather than spacious – and I really mean that in the best way. Everything has its place, the bed’s surprisingly comfortable (none of that rock-hard mattress nonsense), and the bathroom situation is way better than you’d expect for a 3-star place. The shower pressure is actually decent, which… honestly, that’s not always a given in this price range. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. You’re on a side street that mostly sees local foot traffic during the day, so you can actually sleep without earplugs. The air conditioning works properly too, which becomes crucial during Osaka’s brutal summer months. There’s this little convenience store about two blocks down that’s open 24/7 – Family Mart, I think – and it became my go-to for late-night snacks and morning coffee.

Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they’re actually staying there: you’re positioned perfectly between the tourist chaos and the real Osaka. Walk one direction and you hit all the Instagram spots and department stores. Walk the other way and you’re in these residential neighborhoods where you can find those tiny ramen shops that don’t even have English signs but serve the best tonkotsu you’ll ever taste. The Matsuyamachi subway station is close enough that you’re never more than a few minutes from getting anywhere in the city, but far enough that you don’t hear the trains. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re actually living in Osaka for a few days rather than just visiting. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be fancy, but it gets all the important stuff right. If you’re the type who wants to explore during the day and have a clean, quiet place to crash at night without paying hotel prices, this place delivers.

  The location was PERFECT. Dotonbori was a short walk away, a 7-eleven and other convenience stores were nearby.
  
  What could be improved: A bit humid, but it was a small space and it was 6 of us, so we understand.

  What could be improved: The water faucet is hard to adjust (too cold or too late, took a lot of time to set). The room is not as big as the picture, suitable for 1-2 people.

  The full amenities in the house made it a home away from home for us. The location near a train station is helpful to get us around. The best thing is there is a Muslim restaurant less than 10mins walk that serves Halal Japanese dishes that is convenient for Muslims like us.

  All the amenities were present, such as a washer. Very near the metro. Walkable to Dotonburi, and there was a really nice neighbourhood shopping street nearby.

  The flat was close to a subway station (2min by walk). Area was calm, the flat was big enough with all the equipments needed.
  Check in was easy through the tablet in the hallway.

  What could be improved: The pin code outside, at beginning it was not working well because you need to push long time one button to make it works.

  Really convenient location, very close to the metro station and a Lawson convenience store. There was also a vendo just outside, perfect for late night water needs.
  Beds were firm and comfortable (as a family, we do not like mattresses that are too soft).
