River Side Namba 801 Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to River Side Namba 801, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place tucked away on Saiwaicho street. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming spots surprise you the most. The building itself is pretty typical for this part of Naniwa-ku, nothing flashy, but there’s something refreshing about a hotel that doesn’t try to oversell itself with fancy lobbies and marble everywhere.
What actually won me over was the location – and I mean the real location, not just “convenient to everything” nonsense. You’re literally a 5-minute walk from the chaos of Dotonbori, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with drunk salarymen stumbling around at 2 AM (trust me, that matters). The Namba area can get pretty intense, especially during festival season, so having this quieter pocket to retreat to is honestly perfect. Plus, there’s a decent convenience store right around the corner on the same block – one of those things that seems small until you need toothpaste at 11 PM. The rooms are… well, they’re what you’d expect for the price point, but they’re clean and the AC actually works properly, which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed in Osaka.
Here’s the thing though – the staff really makes this place. Check-in was smooth even with my terrible Japanese, and they seemed genuinely happy to help rather than just going through the motions. I had an issue with the keycard on my second night (these older buildings, you know how it is), and they sorted it out immediately without making me feel like an inconvenience. The 8.1 rating makes total sense when you stay here – it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it delivers on what it promises. The neighborhood gets quiet after the dinner rush, so you can actually sleep, and in the morning you’re right there ready to dive back into the Namba madness. I mean, you’re paying for a bed and a strategic location, and that’s exactly what you get. Would I stay here again? Absolutely, especially if I’m planning to spend most of my time exploring the area rather than lounging in the hotel room.

Brilliant location

Location and ease of checking inn.
What could be improved: For Muslims, inavailability of bidet in the toiletWendy from Singapore – 10 March 2023 (8/10)
The apt is very small and cosy but enough room for 4 persons. Location is also very convenient as there are cafes ard that you can take a quick bite if you want. It is also only 10-20 minutes to anywhere that has great eateries!
What could be improved: The bedrooms were a bit dusty for our family's comfort.Duong from Taiwan – 16 January 2023 (9/10)
It has quite complete all the stuff you need for a small apartment to stay for a few days.
What could be improved: Maybe the TV should have more channels, but of course not everyone will spend time watching TV while he/she is on a vacation.Royce from Australia – 8 April 2025 (7/10)
Ideal for families; spacious (by Japanese standard) rooms with enough beds for everyone; Kitchen facilities (including a fridge and microwave), clean bathroom (with bath and shower) well-stocked convenience stories close by, short walk to major train station (Namba) and the Dotonbori area; lift in apartment building so no worries about walking or carrying baggage up/down 8 flights of stairs. Washing machine is very helpful in longer stays too; there is a 24hr laundromat across the street with excellent driers. Host information was outstanding, even including turn-by-turn directions from the railway station to the property.
What could be improved: Property is older and has some quirks (eg cannot use microwave and kettle at the same time otherwise it blows a fuse), has some wear and tear on account of its age.Li from Australia – 24 March 2025 (7/10)
Location is quite good

It was a few blocks aways from the train station and 15 minutes walks to the Dotonbori area and all the attraction offered in the area. 7/11, Lawson, or Family mart is close by to get what's needed. There is a washing Machine, iron and ironing board that we were able to use. The 2 bedroom apartment is well equipped withall things that one need. It was enough space for a party of 4.
What could be improved: none.Merjo from Philippines – 11 April 2023 (8/10)
very convenient location for traveling to and from the airport via the OCAT bus, lots of space also in the room. the owner would also answer my questions immediately.
What could be improved: the unit smelled old and some of the fixtures/furniture were also oldBrent from United States – 11 May 2025 (9/10)
Very clean and great facilities
Bryan from United Kingdom – 16 February 2025 (9/10)
Two bedrooms and very well equipped. The owner made sure the apartment was warm when we arrived as it was 1 or 2 degrees outside.
Super set up and would love to go back as the owner made sure everything was fine so appreciated the care
What could be improved: Nothing wrong. All great
