Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Richmond Hotel Namba Daikokucho, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked away on a quieter street in Shikitsu Higashi, which honestly took me a minute to find even with Google Maps. But you know what? That turned out to be one of its best features. While everyone else is dealing with the chaos of central Namba, you’re about a 7-minute walk from all the action but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night without drunk salarymen singing karaoke outside your window.

The lobby’s pretty compact – nothing fancy, just clean and efficient in that way Japanese hotels do so well. Check-in was smooth, though the front desk staff’s English is… well, let’s just say having Google Translate ready doesn’t hurt. The rooms are what you’d expect from a 3-star business hotel – small but smartly designed, with that firm Japanese bed that somehow feels way more comfortable than it looks. The bathroom’s one of those all-in-one units, but it’s actually roomier than some 4-star places I’ve stayed in Tokyo. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. You’re close enough to Kuromon Ichiba Market that you can smell the grilled wagyu wafting over in the morning (seriously, it’s like a five-minute walk), but the street noise is minimal.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place – the location is actually perfect if you know Osaka at all. Sure, you’re not right in the middle of Dotonbori madness, but Daikokucho Station is literally around the corner, and from there you can hit Namba in two stops or Tennoji in one. I mean, I spent most of my mornings wandering through Kuromon Market with a coffee, then hopping on the subway to explore different neighborhoods. The convenience stores are right there (there’s a 7-Eleven practically next door), and there’s this little ramen shop about two blocks down that stays open late – perfect for those nights when you stumble back from exploring Osaka’s bar scene. The hotel doesn’t have parking, but honestly, you don’t need a car here anyway. The whole area has this authentic, lived-in feeling that’s getting harder to find in central Osaka, where everything’s becoming so polished and tourist-focused. For the price point, especially considering that 8.1 rating reflects real guest experiences, it’s exactly what you want from a solid base camp in Osaka.

Reviews

  • Ian from United States – 7 June 2025 (9/10)

Staff were nice. Breakfast was feasible for the money (about $15 US)

What could be improved: Room was very tight and hard to get around with 3 beds. Would have preferred a pull-out bed or have taken the option to leave the third bed out and my wife, son and I would have made do with two beds.

  • Sooksin from Thailand – 25 March 2025 (9/10)

Room was nice, everything is quite cozy and perfect

What could be improved: Nothing really, everything is quite nice.

  • Jackie from Philippines – 5 November 2024 (9/10)

We liked the traditional breakfast. There was not so many selections but the food was great to start the day. We also liked the location as it was a walk to Dikokucho Station and also 12 minutes walk to Namba Station.

What could be improved: Nothing that we can think of.

  • Janjira from Thailand – 5 January 2024 (7/10)

Great breakfast with various choices and good taste.

What could be improved: Beverage complimentary should be available 24 Hrs. and add-on some snack also.

  • Victor from Brazil – 7 August 2023 (9/10)

Close to Daikokucho Station and Family Mart.

  • Tung from Vietnam – 19 June 2023 (9/10)

    The staff is nice.
    the room is very clean.

What could be improved: The aircon is a little bit slow. It takes a while to get cool.
The tv is hard to control .

  • Yusmawati from Singapore – 11 June 2023 (9/10)

It is a quiet hotel away from the bustling city centre. There are convenient stores nearby the hotel and it is 5 minutes from the Daikokucho station. It is a clean hotel with excellent service. Check in and out are done within 5 minutes

What could be improved: The room is a bit too small for us.

  • Jose from Japan – 7 May 2023 (9/10)

Friendly staff from the parking lot to the kitchen staff
