Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about the Red Roof Inn in Namba? It’s tucked away on this quiet side street in Nipponbashi, but you’re literally a three-minute walk from all the chaos of Dotonbori. I mean, you can actually get some sleep here without the constant hum of tourists and street vendors that you’d get if you stayed right in the thick of things.

The lobby’s pretty modest – honestly, it feels more like a business hotel than what you might expect from the Red Roof brand back home, but in a good way. Clean lines, that minimalist Japanese aesthetic, and the staff actually speaks decent English (which, let’s be real, isn’t always a given). My room was on the sixth floor, and while it’s definitely compact – we’re talking Japanese hotel compact – everything’s thoughtfully designed. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and I loved that they had both a regular shower and one of those deep Japanese soaking tubs. After walking around Osaka Castle and the markets all day, that tub was basically heaven.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place: the location is actually perfect if you want to experience Osaka like a local. You’re right in the heart of Nipponbashi, which means you’ve got electronics shops and small restaurants everywhere, but you’re also walking distance to Kuromon Ichiba Market – and trust me, hit that market early morning for the best sushi breakfast of your life. The Nipponbashi Station is maybe two blocks away, so getting to Kyoto or even out to Nara is super easy. Plus, there’s a 7-Eleven right around the corner (essential for late-night snacks and surprisingly good coffee).

I stayed there during cherry blossom season, which was probably the busiest time possible, and the hotel never felt chaotic or overcrowded. The elevators were quick, the hallways stayed quiet, and honestly, for a 3-star place, the attention to detail impressed me. They had slippers that actually fit Western feet, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the WiFi was fast enough to video call home without any issues. The only minor complaint I’d have is that the walls are a bit thin – I could hear my neighbor’s TV one night, but it wasn’t terrible.

What really makes this place special though is how it puts you right in authentic Osaka without the tourist markup. You’re staying where locals actually live and work, eating at places that don’t have English menus (in the best way), and you can walk to major attractions without dealing with the crowds until you actually want to. For the price point and that 8.4 rating, it totally makes sense – it’s one of those places that just gets the basics really right without trying to be fancy about it.

Reviews

  • Rakhmatulin from Kyrgyzstan – 9 June 2025 (9/10)

Great location near to Namba station, in other side not so crowded. Clean as usual in Japan)

What could be improved: Sometimes a smell from the cafe at the ground floor.

  • Jack from United Kingdom – 8 June 2025 (9/10)

Great room, very modern. Great location in the center of Osaka, very close to shops and about 8 minutes walk from a train station. Staff were very helpful with our luggage and spoke good English. Free tea, coffee and other amenities were available at the reception which we appreciated.

  • Yuka from United Kingdom – 7 June 2025 (9/10)

Extremely good location in Namba, a station easily reachable from Kansai airport. The staff were friendly, easy check in process and our room had a modern and slick finish. The bed was very comfortable too. The staff also let us leave our bag with them for few hours after check out, which was really helpful.

What could be improved: Nothing, it was perfect.

  • Kimberly from United States – 3 June 2025 (9/10)

I was pleasantly surprised. Mid-range hotels get a really bad reputation in Japan, but this place was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Small by Western standards, but great for a short stay.

  • Ka from Hong Kong – 5 May 2025 (9/10)

    The location

What could be improved: The air conditioner is very noisy

  • Artur from Russia – 3 May 2025 (9/10)

The hotel has a great location—close to a railway station and several subway lines. The staff is friendly, and everything is very clean. They provide couple bottles of water daily. The lobby has a small coffee station and an area where you can heat up and eat purchased food. There’s a designated smoking area. Within walking distance is the Dotonbori district, filled with shops and eateries.

What could be improved: Like many Japanese business hotels, the rooms are quite compact. When booking, be sure to check their size—some rooms are larger than others.

  • Denise from Argentina – 21 April 2025 (9/10)

The room was appropriately sized. The location was perfect, only a few blocks away from Dotonbori and Kuromon market, and walkable distance to Shinsekai, while also close enough to a major subway station to go anywhere else

What could be improved: The bed was a bit small and the fact that one had to sleep against the wall made it a bit more uncomfortable

  • Shiva from United Kingdom – 8 April 2025 (9/10)

Great location and very clean. Only thing is that room are a little tight

  • Lyn from New Zealand – 7 April 2025 (8/10)

Closd to all transport especially from Kansai Airport and all attractions.

What could be improved: Good budget accomadation.

  • Asprec from United States – 4 April 2025 (9/10)

    Convenient location to ho around.

What could be improved: Having yakuta
