Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to this Rakuten STAY property near Dekijima Station – it’s tucked into a pretty residential area in Nishiyodogawa-ku that most tourists never see. But you know what? Sometimes those unexpected finds turn out to be exactly what you need.

The building itself has that clean, modern apartment-style vibe that Rakuten STAY does well, and since it’s actually a collaboration with Shamaison (a local apartment management company), it feels more like staying in a real Osaka neighborhood than being stuck in some touristy bubble. I mean, you’re literally living among locals here – there’s a family convenience store right down the street where the owner started recognizing me after day two, and the morning sounds are authentic Osaka residential life, not tour buses rumbling past your window. The station is maybe a three-minute walk, which honestly surprised me because the booking photos made it look further. Dekijima isn’t exactly a major stop, but that’s actually part of the charm – you get direct access to the main lines without dealing with the chaos of somewhere like Namba or Umeda.

What really sold me on this place was the space itself. These aren’t cramped hotel rooms; they’re proper studio apartments with actual kitchenettes that you’ll want to use. The fridge is full-sized, not one of those tiny hotel mini-fridges, and I found myself stopping by the nearby Mandai supermarket (it’s maybe a five-minute walk toward the river) to grab ingredients for simple meals. The washing machine was a game-changer too – I actually extended my stay partly because doing laundry here was so much easier than hunting for a coin laundry. The Wi-Fi was solid, which mattered since I was working remotely some days, and the air conditioning worked quietly, unlike some places where it sounds like a jet engine all night. Look, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect luxury touches, but everything works properly and the cleaning standards are high – very Japanese in that regard. My only real complaint is that the walls are a bit thin, so you’ll occasionally hear your neighbors, but it’s never been disruptive enough to lose sleep over. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be fancy, but it delivers exactly what it promises. If you want to experience Osaka more like a temporary resident than a tourist, and you don’t mind being a short train ride from the main attractions, this spot really works. Plus, you’re saving money that you can spend on the incredible food scene – and trust me, that’s where your budget should go in Osaka anyway.
