Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “R Residence 天下茶屋 IV” I had no idea what to expect. The address looked like someone copy-pasted it from three different sources, and I mean, a 3-star place in Tennoji? But you know what, sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you upfront.

The thing about this area is that most tourists completely skip it on their way to the flashier parts of Osaka, which is actually perfect if you’re looking for something more authentic. Tennoji-ku isn’t exactly the postcard version of Japan, but it’s real in a way that Dotonbori just isn’t anymore. You’re basically staying where actual Osakans live and work, and there’s something refreshing about walking to a convenience store without dodging selfie sticks every five steps. The residence itself sits in this quiet residential pocket – honestly, I walked past it twice before realizing I’d found the right place because it blends in so naturally with the neighborhood.

What really won me over was how lived-in everything felt. The building has that slightly weathered look that screams “functional over fancy,” but inside it’s clean and surprisingly thoughtful. The rooms aren’t huge – we’re talking compact Japanese efficiency here – but they’ve got everything you actually need without the clutter of amenities you’ll never touch. The bed was firm (thank god, because I’ve stayed in too many places with mattresses that feel like marshmallows), and the bathroom, while small, had decent water pressure and stayed warm. I actually slept better here than at some supposedly fancier places in Namba, probably because you don’t have the constant hum of tourist chaos outside your window.

The 7.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. Check-in was straightforward, no drama, and the staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions. The location grows on you too, especially if you’re the type who likes to explore beyond the obvious spots. There’s this little shopping street about a ten-minute walk away where I found some of the best takoyaki I had during my entire trip (and I tried a lot of takoyaki, believe me). Plus, when you do want to hit the main tourist areas, the train connections are actually pretty convenient – just don’t expect to stumble home at 2 AM without planning your route.

If you’re looking for Instagram-worthy luxury or need to be in the heart of the action, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want a clean, no-nonsense base that gives you a glimpse of how regular people live in Osaka, and you don’t mind trading some convenience for authenticity and a quieter night’s sleep, R Residence delivers exactly what it says on the tin.

  We stayed on the 2F floor. The location of this property was very good – close to two stations we used to get about. Very close to various convenience stores, also a big super market which was very very handy. The rooms were spacious and airy and clean. Very good Value.
  
  What could be improved: First of all there was this weird step/ditch by the front door which myself and most of my kids fell in at least once on our stay. There wasn’t a sofa lounge area – so felt like two bedrooms separated by a corridors and a kitchen so it didn’t haven’t a homely feel

  公寓旁边有个小公园，特别漂亮，楼下有一个罗森，转个弯有一家大超市，买东西很方便！到心斋桥，地铁也很方便！厨房用具都配备完善，我们在超市买了点食物，回到公寓自己加热了吃的，都很不错！床也很舒服！我睡得好香

  2가족이(7명)넉넉하게 잤어요. 침대 푹신합니다.
  무조건 베드 많은 장을 찾다가 신규아파트 발견! 리뷰없는 레지던스를 예약하는 게 도전이였으나 넓어서 좋았고 바로 옆 편의점이 있어서 편리했어요. 가성비 최고입니다.
  
  What could be improved: 수건, 식기류 모두 넉넉했으나 화장지가 부족했고 욕실에 옷 놓을 공간이 없어 불편했어요.
  주차는 150m 따로 주차해야 합니다.
  가습기 공기청정기가 없어 건조합니다.
