Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be straight with you about PORTA INN Bentencho – it’s one of those places that totally surprised me in the best way possible. When I first rolled up to this spot in Minato-ku, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming spots end up being exactly what you need.
The location is actually pretty clever – Namiyoke is this quiet residential area that most tourists completely miss, but here’s the thing: you’re literally a stone’s throw from Bentencho Station. I mean, you can walk there in like three minutes, which puts you on the Chuo Line straight into the heart of Osaka. No dealing with the chaos of staying right in Namba or Dotonbori (though you can be there in 15 minutes when you want to be). The neighborhood has this authentic, lived-in feel – there’s a family-run takoyaki stand around the corner that I stumbled across my second night, and the old guy running it didn’t speak a word of English but somehow we had this whole conversation about baseball while he made the best damn octopus balls I’ve ever had.
What really got me about this place was the attention to detail. The rooms aren’t huge – I mean, this is Japan, so you know what you’re getting into – but everything just works. The bed was actually comfortable (not always a given in budget-friendly spots), and they’d thought through all those little things that matter when you’re living out of a suitcase. Good lighting for reading, enough outlets in the right places, a bathroom that doesn’t make you feel like you’re in a submarine. The staff was genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions. When I mentioned I was trying to find a particular vintage record shop in Shinsekai, the front desk guy actually drew me a little map and marked a couple other spots I might like.
Honestly, the 8.5 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not trying to be fancy or Instagram-perfect – it’s just really good at being a comfortable, no-nonsense place to crash while you explore Osaka. The only minor thing is that if you’re someone who needs to be in the thick of tourist central every second, you might feel a bit removed. But for me? That was actually the appeal. You get this glimpse of regular Osaka life, where salarymen grab their morning coffee and kids walk to school, but you’re still connected enough to hit all the major spots without breaking a sweat. Plus, let’s be real – after a long day of temple-hopping and eating your weight in okonomiyaki, coming back to a quiet street where you can actually hear yourself think is pretty nice.

Staffs were very friendly. Breakfast is simple and not much variation.
What could be improved: Its ashamed I have to throw the existing toothbrush in order to use the toothpaste. It will be great to have toothpaste only as part of the amenities located on front lobby. CheersAnthony from Indonesia – 16 May 2025 (9/10)
Location is very near station..

Stafg very friendly amd helpfull..Ziggy from Australia – 6 May 2025 (9/10)
The location close to station and shops and restaurants and bars. Very close to Osaka Bay Tower too with all its shops. Price was great. Room was a good size. The laundry was not busy so great for washing clothes. Love that 7/11 was downstairs next door. The two train lines nearby make it easy to get to anywhere in Osaka.
What could be improved: There was a slight damp smell in my bathroom. Everything else was great.Peter from Canada – 1 May 2025 (9/10)
Right beside the train station
Lots of food and stores near by
Easy to get around
The morning breakfast is fantastic
What could be improved: NonePaul from Japan – 25 April 2025 (7/10)
The proximity to Bentencho, a key train station in Osaka
What could be improved: The aloof nature of the staff, especially one older female staff. It doesn’t take much to smile.Walter from Australia – 23 April 2025 (9/10)
The location of the hotel is fantastic if being well connected by public transport is the goal. The room was very comfortable for our family of 3. The complementary breakfast worked nicely for us too.
What could be improved: A food service other than breakfast would be ideal.Sandra from Australia – 13 April 2025 (8/10)
Location close to USJ, Expo and aquarium with major rail line
Natalia from Spain – 6 April 2025 (9/10)
EXCELLENT location, like 2 min from the station (there are metro and jr lines), great facilities, cleaning every day.
The only negative thing is breakfast, they give you only onigiri and soup, and a bit of packed pastries. The coffee was good, though.Mariana from Mexico – 3 April 2025 (9/10)
Great location , comfortable, good distribution, friendly employees
Antonio from Mexico – 26 February 2025 (9/10)
