Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first walked into the Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s connected to the Tennoji train station, so I figured it’d be one of those sterile business hotels with paper-thin walls and tiny rooms. Boy, was I wrong. The lobby hits you right away with this soaring ceiling and marble everything, but it’s the kind of elegant that doesn’t make you feel like you need to whisper. What really got me though was stepping into my room on the 48th floor – the view stretches all the way to Osaka Castle on clear days, and you can actually see the deer roaming around Nara Park if you look southeast (well, if you squint a bit).
The location is honestly perfect if you know Osaka at all. You’re literally above Tennoji Station, which sounds chaotic but the soundproofing is incredible – I couldn’t hear the trains at all once the room door closed. What’s brilliant is you can walk underground to Sumiyoshi Taisha shrine in about twenty minutes, or hop on the JR line and be in Dotonbori in ten. The hotel sits right at the base of Abeno Harukas, Japan’s tallest building, so there’s this whole underground shopping maze you can explore when it’s raining (and trust me, it rains a lot in summer). I spent way too much time in the basement convenience stores and that little ramen counter near the Kintetsu entrance – the tonkotsu there is better than some of the touristy spots in Namba, honestly.
The rooms themselves feel genuinely spacious by Japanese standards, though I’ll admit the bathroom setup is a bit odd – there’s this separate toilet room that’s so narrow I kept bumping my elbows. But the bathtub is deep enough to actually soak in, which is rare in city hotels. Room service arrived faster than I expected, and the staff spoke enough English that I didn’t have to resort to Google Translate every five minutes. One thing that surprised me was how quiet everything stays even during rush hour – you’d think being connected to such a major transit hub would mean constant noise, but the engineering here is really something. Check-in was smooth too, none of that awkward waiting around while they figure out your reservation. The concierge actually gave me solid recommendations for kaiseki places in Shinsekai that weren’t in any guidebook I’d seen. If you’re planning to explore beyond the typical Osaka tourist circuit – maybe hit up some of the traditional neighborhoods like Sumiyoshi or take day trips to Yoshino – this spot gives you options that staying in Dotonbori just doesn’t.

View of city, staff, location
What could be improved: Price of food, drinks is prohibitive – we usually always consume food, drinks, coffees etc from our hotels but the Mariott Osaka is extremely pricey compared to all the venues we stayed at around the world and even more high end onesEmre from Netherlands – 7 June 2025 (8/10)

Great view, clean rooms, comfortable bed, helpful staff
What could be improved: I didn't like the fact that I had to bring coupons for breakfast to get discount from breakfast. Also My son is 5 years old. I was told children at 5 years of age eat for free but I was charged sometimes. I didn't challenge them but I should not have to challenge them. It was inconsistent it made them seem unprofessional.Marie from United States – 23 February 2025 (8/10)
