Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “neko neko apartment” on my booking confirmation, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting myself into. But after spending a few nights in Higashiyodogawa-ku, I can tell you this place is actually a pretty solid find if you want to experience Osaka like you’re living there, not just passing through.

The location in Nishiawaji isn’t going to win any tourism awards – you’re definitely in a residential neighborhood here, which honestly turned out to be one of my favorite things about it. You know what’s great about staying where actual Osakans live? You get to stumble into those tiny family-run restaurants that don’t even have English menus, and there’s this oddly comforting rhythm to the area. Morning bicycle commuters, the old ladies doing their shopping, kids walking to school – it’s real life, not the polished tourist bubble. The nearest station is about a 7-minute walk (I timed it), and from there you can get to Dotonbori or Osaka Castle without too much hassle, though yeah, it’s not like you’re stepping out your door into the action.

What really surprised me was how thoughtfully set up the apartment actually is. I mean, it’s a 3-star place so don’t expect luxury, but whoever designed this space clearly understood what travelers need. The kitchen has proper knives (not those useless hotel butter knives), there’s enough fridge space for actual groceries, and – this might sound weird but it mattered – the washing machine actually works well and doesn’t sound like it’s trying to escape. The whole place has this clean, minimalist vibe that feels very Japanese without being overly themed, if that makes sense. Though I will say the walls are a bit thin, so if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs because you’ll hear your neighbors moving around. Nothing crazy, just… you know, apartment living sounds.

The check-in process was surprisingly smooth for a smaller place – they had clear instructions in English and actually responded quickly when I had questions. What I really appreciated was how they’d stocked the basics without making a big deal about it. Good toilet paper, decent towels, coffee filters, even some emergency instant ramen. Small touches, but when you’re jet-lagged and everything’s closed, you notice these things. The whole experience felt less like staying in a hotel and more like borrowing a friend’s well-organized apartment. Plus, at this price point and with ratings consistently in the 8+ range, it’s clear other people are having similarly positive experiences. If you’re the type who’d rather spend your money on amazing food and experiences instead of fancy hotel amenities you’ll barely use, neko neko apartment makes a lot of sense.
