You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Mutsumi Tsuruhashi 401 when I first booked it – I mean, it’s basically a guesthouse tucked away in Tennoji Ward, and honestly, I was just looking for something affordable near the action. But walking up to this place on Tojocho street, there’s something immediately welcoming about it that catches you off guard. The building itself is pretty typical for Osaka, nothing fancy, but the moment you step inside you realize someone actually cares about this place.

The location is what really makes this spot shine, though. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from Tsuruhashi Station – and I’m talking about the kind of walk where you’re not dragging your luggage through crowds or up endless stairs. The whole Tsuruhashi area has this authentic, lived-in feel that tourists often miss when they stick to the main districts. There’s this incredible Korean BBQ scene right around the corner (the locals will tell you Tsuruhashi has some of the best Korean food in Japan), and you can actually hear the evening bustle from the street-side yakiniku joints when you’re settling in for the night. It’s not loud enough to keep you awake – more like a gentle reminder that you’re in a real neighborhood where people actually live and eat.

What struck me most about staying here was how the owner clearly gets what travelers need without trying to be something they’re not. The room itself is clean and functional in that distinctly Japanese way – everything has its place, nothing’s wasted. The tatami feels fresh, and honestly, after a long day of walking around Osaka Castle or getting lost in Dotonbori, there’s something incredibly satisfying about that firm, traditional bedding setup. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed, and the water pressure is actually better than some of the pricier hotels I’ve stayed at in Namba. You’ve got easy access to convenience stores (there’s a decent one maybe 30 seconds away), and if you need to grab something more substantial, the morning market activity around here is pretty genuine – not touristy, just regular folks doing their shopping. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s the kind of place where small details add up to something that just works really well.

  Near to all the main district, train is 6 mins walk. Restaurants everywhere. Grocery is a bit far about 10 mins, but you'll get fresh produce daily.

  It’s valued overall, nice and tidy, and the bathroom is very warm, love it. Not far away from the stations, convenient site, shops nearby. And it’s in Korean town so it’s easy to look for food.
  
  What could be improved: There’s no hanger in the shower room (except for the one on the door which is eventually going to get wet) so you might need to get a stool to place your clothes. And the sofas are sagged.
