MIMARU Osaka Shinsaibashi East Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked into MIMARU Osaka Shinsaibashi East – the building itself is pretty understated from the street. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to show off. This isn’t your typical hotel room situation; it’s more like having your own little apartment right in the heart of Shinsaibashi, which is exactly what you want when you’re planning to actually live in Osaka for a few days rather than just pass through.
The location is what really got me. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Shinsaibashi-suji shopping street, but here’s the thing – you’re just far enough east that you miss most of the tourist chaos. I mean, you can still hear the energy from the main drag, especially on weekend nights, but it’s not like you’re trying to sleep above a pachinko parlor. The Nagahoribashi subway station is right there too, which honestly saved me so much time getting around. And if you’re into the whole Dotonbori scene (and let’s face it, you probably are), it’s maybe a seven-minute walk through some really interesting side streets where you’ll find those tiny izakayas that don’t make it into guidebooks.
What actually surprised me was how much space you get. The rooms – well, they call them apartments and that’s pretty accurate – have actual kitchens with full-size fridges, which is kind of a game-changer when you’re staying more than a couple nights. I found myself buying stuff from the convenience stores and actually cooking breakfast, something I never bother with in regular hotels. The washing machine was clutch too, especially since I always overpack and end up wanting to do laundry halfway through any trip. The whole setup just feels more… normal? Like you’re not living out of a suitcase in some sterile hotel room. There’s a dining table where you can spread out, decent Wi-Fi for when you need to catch up on work (or upload all those food photos), and the air conditioning actually works properly – which, trust me, matters a lot during Osaka summers.
The staff knows their stuff too, and I appreciated that they weren’t overly formal in that way that sometimes makes you feel like you’re bothering them with questions. They’ve got English-speaking folks at the front desk, but more importantly, they understand what foreign travelers actually need to know. Like, they’ll tell you which convenience store has the best selection, or that the takoyaki place around the corner gets crazy busy after 7 PM but is totally worth the wait. Small stuff that makes a difference. Check-in was smooth, no weird complications, and they’re pretty flexible about luggage storage if you arrive early or need to leave bags after checkout.
The whole experience just felt right, you know? It’s got that 4-star comfort level without any pretentious nonsense, and honestly, the 9 rating makes sense when you factor in the location, the space, and the fact that you’re not paying Ritz-Carlton prices to be in the middle of everything. If you’re the type who wants to actually experience Osaka rather than just see it from a hotel window, this place gets it.

Excellent location, very spacious and clean.
What could be improved: Price is slowly becoming more expensive progressively. We notice this because we go to different Mimaru hotels at least twice a year.Bernard from Canada – 28 May 2025 (8/10)
Great apartment-style hotel rooms. Space-efficient bunk beds for kids, each bed has outlets and charging. small living area (table and chairs/bench with an equipped kitchenette.) Door to the room is on an outdoor hallway, like many buildings in Japan, but we were on a high enough floor (8) not to hear any of the commotion from the street below. Although the lobby is too small for a common lounge space, there are cute "games" using tokens for little amenities like sake, tea/coffee or dagashi/snacks for kids.
What could be improved: I didn't realize how seedy the area was until the sun went down and the touts emerged on every intersection in the neighborhood. A little uncomfortable getting back to the hotel at the end of the day.Marzouk from Australia – 26 May 2025 (8/10)
