Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from MGranz Tanimachi 4 chome 301 when I first booked it – honestly, the name itself is a bit of a mouthful and sounds more like an apartment address than a hotel. But this little place tucked away in Chuo Ward completely surprised me. The location is actually brilliant if you want to feel like you’re living in Osaka rather than just visiting it. You’re right in the heart of Tanimachi, which means you’ve got the subway literally around the corner (Tanimachi-Yonchome Station is maybe a two-minute walk), but it’s not one of those tourist-heavy areas where you’re dodging selfie sticks every five minutes. The neighborhood has this wonderfully ordinary Japanese vibe – you’ll see salarymen grabbing coffee from the konbini, elderly locals doing their morning exercises in the small park nearby, and the kind of family-run restaurants that don’t have English menus but serve the best katsu you’ll ever have.
The hotel itself feels more like a really well-appointed serviced apartment, which I mean in the best possible way. The room I stayed in (301, hence the name I guess?) was compact but incredibly thoughtful – everything had its place, and somehow they managed to fit in a proper kitchenette without making the space feel cramped. The bed was firm in that Japanese way that somehow makes you sleep better than you do at home, and the bathroom, while small, had one of those deep soaking tubs that makes you understand why Japanese bathing culture is such a thing. What really impressed me was the attention to detail – there were proper blackout curtains (essential when you’re dealing with jet lag), the air conditioning was whisper-quiet, and they’d stocked the mini-fridge with local specialties instead of overpriced tourist snacks. The building itself is quiet too, which is saying something considering you’re in the middle of Osaka. I think because it’s more residential than hotel-like, people naturally keep things low-key.
Honestly, the 9.5 rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not trying to be a fancy international hotel with marble lobbies and white-gloved concierges – instead, it nails this sweet spot between authentic local living and modern comfort. The staff (when you actually see them, which isn’t often since it’s pretty self-service) clearly know the neighborhood inside and out. They gave me a hand-drawn map showing the best route to Osaka Castle (about a 15-minute walk through some lovely backstreets) and recommended this incredible tempura place that I never would have found otherwise. If you’re the type of traveler who wants to experience Osaka like a temporary local rather than checking off tourist boxes, this place is perfect. Just don’t expect a traditional hotel experience – but that’s exactly what makes it special.

This place was perfect for our needs. Spacious, modern, conveniently located (close to train station) yet on a quiet street…fast wifi too. The only con- the dryer function on the washer didn’t work great- we ended up just hanging our clothes to dry. The property manager communicated quickly and efficiently. There was a booklet explaining how to run all of the various appliances in the apartment in English which was super helpful. Highly recommend this place.

Great value for the price! The apartment is brand new, quiet with a modern kitchen and bathroom, plus all the essentials you need. Everything—heater, water boiler, dryer, washing machine, and even the trash bin—is clean and works perfectly. The English instructions are super clear, and the pre-check-in info makes it easy to use the smart Japanese home tech for a comfy warm stay during the cold winter. There are convenience stores and subway stations just around the corner. About a 20-minute ride to central areas. For the price, it’s hard to complain!
What could be improved: The area is residential and feels very safe overall. Only the alley towards the building is slightly quiet for single ladies. Our family feels no issue.
Suggestion to use fitted bedsheets would help them stay in place better. Also, it would be good to have extra trash bags available for replacement after a few days of stay.Cheryl from Australia – 15 December 2024 (9/10)
Spacious and good location!
What could be improved: One minor criticism – we would have liked an English speaking TV channelSophie from France – 14 May 2025 (10/10)
