You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Liaison House Universal Gateway when I first walked up to it on that quiet stretch of Nishikujo. I mean, it’s tucked away in Konohana-ku, which honestly feels more like a residential neighborhood than a tourist hub – but that actually turned out to be exactly what made it special. The building itself is pretty understated, sort of blends into the area in that way Japanese hotels sometimes do, but once you’re inside, there’s this really clean, modern vibe that immediately puts you at ease.

The location is actually brilliant if you think about it. Sure, you’re not right in the thick of Dotonbori or Shinsaibashi, but you’re maybe a 10-minute train ride from Universal Studios (hence the name, I guess), and the Nishikujo Station is literally a few minutes’ walk away. What I really loved though was how quiet it gets at night – none of that constant hum of traffic you get in central Osaka. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful, not just going through the motions, and they actually gave me solid recommendations for local spots. There’s this tiny ramen place about three blocks east that they mentioned – best tonkotsu I had during my entire trip, and I never would’ve found it otherwise.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place, nothing fancy but everything works properly. The bed was actually really comfortable (sometimes that’s a gamble in Japan), and the bathroom had one of those heated toilet seats that you don’t realize you’ll miss until you’re back home. What impressed me most was the attention to small details – like, the curtains actually block out all the light, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and there’s enough outlets near the bed for all your devices. The breakfast situation is pretty standard but decent, though honestly, with all the incredible food options in Osaka, you’ll probably want to venture out anyway. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning another Universal Studios day or just wanted a peaceful base to explore the city from. The 8.9 rating makes total sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it nails all the basics and then some.

  A typical Japanese apartment in a big city. Everything was there: a kitchen, a bathroom, a washing machine, a shower, a toilet, three bedrooms and a living room.
  
  The location was located near the city-center (near a railway-track, but this was not a big issue).

  The location was good, close to train station and near some restaurants.
  
  What could be improved: There was already a cleaning fee charge included on the initial booking around $70-$80 but host requested for all towels, and bedding used to be washed, the washer did not had the capacity to wash more tan 5 medium size towels and it did not dry, only "wind dry" option available, which left us no time to wash the bedding, due to lack of room in the patio to hang dry. Sign by host stated that if fail to washed what was used, there will be additional cleaning fee charge of 5,000 yens.

  なんと言ってももロケーションと電車のアクセスの良さ。USJには近いですし大阪市内や他県へのアクセスも簡単で最高でした。泊まった場所から西九条駅まで歩いて3分。周りはコンビニ、スーパー、レストランが十分にあり便利。部屋も十分な広さでベッドも快適でした。
  
  What could be improved: チェックインのためにQRコードを読み込み情報や写真撮って添付、送信するのは面倒に感じました。もう少し簡単な方法はないのでしょうか。
  
  洗濯機がありありがたいですが乾燥機も欲しかったです。
