Hotel Description
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Lantana Osaka in Shinkitano, I wasn’t expecting much from the neighborhood. This part of Yodogawa-ku isn’t exactly where tourists usually end up, but you know what? That turned out to be the whole point. The hotel sits in this quietly residential area that feels authentically Osaka, without the tourist circus you get around Dotonbori or even near Osaka Station.
The building itself has this understated modern vibe – not trying too hard to be flashy, which I actually appreciated after staying at some of those over-the-top themed places in the city. Check-in was surprisingly smooth (the staff’s English was way better than my terrible Japanese), and they genuinely seemed to care about making sure I knew how to get around. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – clean, well-designed, with those little touches that show someone actually thought about how people use hotel rooms. The beds are properly firm, not those marshmallow disasters some places have, and honestly, the shower pressure was fantastic. I mean, after walking around Osaka all day in the humidity, that matters more than you’d think.
What really won me over was the location situation. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the major tourist spots, but the Shinkitano area has this great local feel – there’s a Family Mart literally around the corner (essential for late-night snack runs), and you’re actually pretty close to some excellent neighborhood restaurants that don’t have English menus or tourist prices. The walk to Shin-Osaka Station is totally doable, maybe 15 minutes if you’re not dragging heavy luggage, which means you can get to Kyoto or even hop on the Shinkansen without dealing with Osaka’s more chaotic central areas. I ended up loving the quiet streets in the evening – such a contrast to the sensory overload of downtown. The whole area just felt more… I don’t know, more like actual Japan instead of Japan-for-tourists, if that makes sense. With an 8.4 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for people who want solid quality without the premium you pay for being right in the thick of things. It’s the kind of place I’d actually book again, which honestly surprised me.

Clean and spacious room and convenient location with lots of restaurants and convenient stores near by. Close to subway station.
What could be improved: Would recommend having more storage and cabinets to put bags and suitcases.Angela from New Zealand – 30 April 2025 (8/10)
Great room!
Generous size room, large bath- sep toilet.
Close to Juso station
What could be improved: The strict no guest policy to have a visitor for one hour – was disappointing this was the only hotel during our 2 week stay to have this.Tomasz from Poland – 29 April 2025 (9/10)
Nice hotel, covers everything you need. Nothing out of the ordinary, nothing to complain about.
Amir from Spain – 22 April 2025 (8/10)
We stayed for two nights at this hotel during our trip to Japan, and for us it was convenient. It's just next to Juso station which is operated by JR, so as we had a JRpass it was convenient for us to go on an excursion to Nara. However, you waste a lot of time to visit Osaka, since it's far from all the interesting touristic areas, and you have to go 1-2 stations with the train to reach the metro stops, so it could take from 40-80 minutes to get to some of the touristic neighbourhoods in Osaka. The rooms are very spacious and beds are comfortable.
What could be improved: They clean rooms only 3 times per week, but I would expect that they do a thorough cleaning when a room is checked out before the arrival of new guests. At our arrival the toilet seats had dry pee stains on them.
This is a business hotel, so don't expect coziness or breakfast. The staff at reception were always very busy and hard to approach, did not welcome us and simply pointed at a self-Check-in computer where we added our data and the keycards were given automatically by the machine.Kim from Spain – 15 April 2025 (9/10)
