Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Osaka, but KONJAKUSO in Tengachaya completely caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. When you first walk into this place, you’re hit with this incredible tea aroma that just sort of wraps around you. It’s not overwhelming or anything, just this gentle, earthy scent that immediately tells you this isn’t your typical hotel experience. The whole concept revolves around traditional Japanese tea culture, which honestly sounds a bit gimmicky until you actually experience it. The staff genuinely knows their tea – like, they can explain the difference between various regional green teas while preparing your welcome drink, and it doesn’t feel forced or rehearsed.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to create this oasis of calm in Tengachaya, which (let’s be real) isn’t exactly the most glamorous neighborhood in Osaka. You’re walking distance from Shinsekai and all that chaos, but inside KONJAKUSO it feels like you’ve stepped into a completely different world. The rooms are designed around this whole tea ceremony aesthetic – low furniture, natural materials, these beautiful ceramic pieces that you actually want to use rather than just admire. I spent way more time than I expected just sitting in my room, drinking tea and watching the light change throughout the day. The tatami flooring feels perfect under your feet, especially after walking around the city all day. You know what surprised me most? The soundproofing is incredible. Tengachaya can get pretty lively, especially near the train station, but once you’re inside, it’s this perfect quiet bubble.

The tea ceremonies they offer aren’t just tourist shows either – they’ll teach you the actual techniques if you’re interested, or just let you participate quietly if that’s more your speed. I watched this elderly tea master work one evening, and honestly, it was almost meditative. The attention to detail is insane – from the way they position each utensil to the temperature of the water. Even breakfast becomes this whole mindful experience rather than just grabbing something quick before heading out. The location might seem random if you don’t know Osaka well, but it’s actually pretty smart – you’re close enough to all the major attractions (Dotonbori is maybe 15 minutes by train), but you’re staying somewhere that feels authentically Japanese rather than like a westernized hotel district. The 9.3 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there. It’s not perfect – the rooms are smaller than what some travelers might expect, and if you’re not into the whole tea culture thing, some of the experience might feel lost on you. But if you want something genuinely different and you appreciate craftsmanship and tradition, this place will probably end up being one of those trips you keep talking about years later.

  Beautiful place to stay and in a very quiet residential area in Osaka. Less than a 5 minute walk to a train station and really easy to get to Shin Osaka station from the nearest station. The host was very kind and easy to reach if you have any questions. I would definitely recommend staying here. The huge tub is awesome!

  We were dropped off by the taxi at the rear alley and then were able to mosey around to the front of the property and get in with ease.

  The cleanliness is excellent! We enjoyed our stay and the unit is big enough for 7 pax. Garden is beautiful too.The house design is nice and beds are comfortable. The host provides complete amenities with Refa hair straightener and hair dryer! Totally unexpected
  
  What could be improved: We have to carry our big suit case up to the narrow staircase as the bedrooms are located on second floor. There is only one bathroom with shower and bathtub. The bath tub is too big and takes too long to fill up

  Close to the metro station and grocery/convenience stores. Beautiful authentic vibes with nice modern touches. The dining area and tatami rooms brought back my childhood memories in Japan. The decoration in the garden was so cute. Fun amenities are provided e.g., Netflix, Nintendo Switch, mini-bar (even tea ceremony sets), etc. The bathtub is big – it took some time to fill up. Overall, we loved staying here and definitely would come back.

  これほど大きな宿泊施設はなかなか無いので貴重だと思いました
  小学生の子どもたちはキッズルームを気に入ってずっと遊んでました
