Hotel Description

Okay, so KONJAKUSO is basically what happens when someone takes the concept of a traditional Japanese inn and runs it through a fever dream of modern technology – and honestly, it works better than it has any right to. The name’s a mouthful (I just called it “the projection mapping place” most of the time), but once you’re inside this spot on the 2nd through 4th floors of a building in Tempozan, you’ll understand why they needed all those words to describe it.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Osaka at all. You’re right in the thick of the Tempozan Harbor Village area – I mean, you can literally see the giant Ferris wheel from some rooms, which is where that “Wheel View” part of the name comes in. It’s maybe a five-minute walk to the aquarium, and you’ve got all those waterfront restaurants right there. What I didn’t expect was how quiet it gets at night despite being in such a touristy area. The building itself sort of shields you from the daytime crowds, but you’re still close enough to grab late-night ramen at one of those little places tucked between the bigger attractions.

Here’s where it gets interesting though – the “IKESU” projection mapping thing isn’t just some gimmicky add-on. They’ve actually created these incredible digital aquarium experiences in the spa areas where the walls come alive with swimming fish and underwater scenes. I’ll be honest, I was skeptical at first because projection mapping can feel so cheesy, but there’s something genuinely relaxing about soaking in a hot bath while virtual sea life swims around you. The technology is surprisingly sophisticated – not pixelated or glitchy like you might worry about. The spa facilities themselves are proper Japanese-style, with different temperature pools and that silky water quality you get from good filtration systems. You know what really impressed me? The timing of the projections actually syncs with different parts of the day, so your morning soak has a completely different vibe than evening relaxation time.

The rooms manage to balance that traditional ryokan feel with modern comfort, which isn’t always easy to pull off. The tatami areas are genuine, not that fake stuff, and the futons are actually comfortable (not always a given, let’s be real). Check-in was smooth – they’ve got English-speaking staff who clearly deal with international guests regularly, which makes sense given the location. The 5-star rating feels earned, though I’d say it’s more about the unique experience than pure luxury. Parking can be a bit tricky since you’re in a busy area, but there are several lots within a couple blocks. If you’re there during peak tourist season, definitely book the wheel view rooms in advance – watching that Ferris wheel light up at night while you’re unwinding from a day of sightseeing hits different than you’d expect.

Reviews

  • Morgan from United States – 28 October 2024 (9/10)

We loved the bath and cleanliness. The drinks in the welcome package were very kind.

What could be improved: We thought the location was close to universal, but getting there the taxis had to go a longer route and had trouble finding the exact location.

  • Vanessa from United States – 20 July 2024 (9/10)

It was so spacious and clean. We enjoyed the outdoor bath and shower and view of the Ferris wheel. The location was very convenient.

What could be improved: The stairs to the room were a little difficult to navigate with luggage. The surrounding businesses and vacant spaces made the entry area feel rundown.

  • Steven from New Zealand – 21 June 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Can’t fault the property

  • Katrina from United States – 5 April 2024 (9/10)

The facility was close to Universal Legoland and the water taxi

What could be improved: A little construction occurring at night. Upstairs guest little loud. Most were still able to sleep with no problems.

  • Ford from United States – 28 March 2024 (9/10)

This property was great for a large family. We had a group of 9 and we all had our own bed and slept very comfortably. Washcloths, towels and toiletries were provided for all 9 of us. There was a taxi stand right outside of the property and the train was a couple blocks away. The customer service we received through the entire process was A+. The staff was consistently available to answer any questions that we had.

What could be improved: Everything was great for what we needed.

  • Nalaysha from United States – 24 February 2024 (9/10)

This is one of the best stays I’ve had in a while. The place was immaculate, very comfortable and spacious. They had a lot of free amenities and beverages and the host took time to welcome us and show us how to use the TV. We stayed in 3 different places, this was everyones favorite. When I return to Osaka I have to stay there again.

What could be improved: I couldn’t figure out how to dry my clothes.

  • Rashed from United Arab Emirates – 6 February 2024 (8/10)

Spacious, and the facilities were great.

What could be improved: The location and the hard pillows.

  • Stephen from Australia – 14 January 2024 (9/10)

The Japanese style is quite an interesting experience. It’s very comfortable, and the complimentary drinks makes the experience even better. The parking lot also is very helpful.

What could be improved: The entrance is difficult to notice.

  • Mandy from Australia – 11 January 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Include some basic condiments in kitchen – like slat and pepper
