You know what caught me off guard about KONJAKUSO? The name makes it sound intimidating – all those quotation marks and Japanese characters – but honestly, this place on the 4th and 5th floors above Dotonbori is exactly what you want when you’re staying in Osaka’s craziest neighborhood. I mean, you’re literally in the thick of it all, with those neon signs practically lighting up your window and the smell of takoyaki drifting up from the street vendors below.

The spa element here isn’t just some marketing gimmick either. After spending a day getting lost in Osaka Castle or hunting down the best okonomiyaki in Shinsekai, you actually need that onsen-style relaxation they’ve got going on. The rooms have this interesting blend – traditional Japanese touches but with modern conveniences that don’t feel forced. What I really appreciated was how they managed to soundproof the place pretty well, considering you’re sitting right above one of Japan’s loudest entertainment districts. Sure, you’ll still hear the occasional drunk salaryman singing karaoke at 2 AM, but it’s part of the Dotonbori charm, honestly.

Location-wise, you can’t get more central – Glico Man is basically your neighbor, and you’re a two-minute stumble from the best late-night ramen spots. The staff seemed genuinely helpful with restaurant recommendations too, not just pointing you toward tourist traps. I noticed they actually knew which places locals frequent versus the Instagram-famous spots (though they’ll happily direct you to both). Check-in was smoother than I expected for a boutique place, and they handle the whole key card situation better than some of the big chains I’ve stayed at. The elevator situation can get a bit crowded during peak times – you’re sharing with other businesses in the building – but it’s really not a big deal unless you’re hauling massive suitcases up there. One thing though: if you’re someone who needs complete silence to sleep, maybe pack earplugs. The energy of Dotonbori never really stops, and while the rooms do a decent job blocking it out, you’re still in the heart of Osaka’s party central. But honestly? That’s exactly why you’d want to stay here in the first place.

  The location was great- a short stroll to the heart of Dotonbori and many restaurants and convenience stores. There was also a subway station just around the corner.
  The apartment itself was lovely and had everything we needed.

  Everything in this stay was amazing and well thought out! It was so comfortable and the outdoor bath was fabulous after being out and about all day! Complimentary drinks too and the customer service was outstanding to ensure won’t stay was pleasurable. Highly recommend!

  A great cosy stylish place with everything you need and a lot of extra's such as a hot tub, selfie photo stick, nintendo games, fancy hair dryer, good coffee, etc. etc.

  So many thoughtful touches in this space! Room to spread out after smaller rooms in Tokyo. The outdoor space was especially welcome. Staff was lovely and left a welcome gift for our kids – and for us. Nice respite in a busy city!
