Hotel New Otani Osaka Overview
Honestly, when I first walked into the Hotel New Otani Osaka, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s one of those big chain hotels, right? But you know what really got me was stepping into that lobby and seeing the way the light hits those massive windows overlooking the Imperial Palace gardens. The whole Shiromi district kind of unfolds in front of you, and suddenly you realize this place actually has some serious views going for it.
What I love about staying here is that you’re literally a five-minute walk from Osaka-jo Hall (perfect if you’re catching a concert), but somehow the hotel itself feels removed from all the chaos. The rooms on the higher floors – and I’d definitely spring for one if you can – look right out over Osaka Castle, especially beautiful at sunset when the whole structure gets that golden glow. The staff here actually knows their stuff too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They helped me figure out the fastest route to Dotonbori without dealing with the tourist crowds (hint: take the subway from Tanimachi Yonchome, not Osakajo-koen).
I’ll be real with you though – this isn’t some boutique place with quirky charm. It’s polished, maybe a little corporate feeling in the common areas, but that 8.7 rating makes sense when you factor in things like the incredibly quiet rooms (I’m a light sleeper and heard zero street noise), the fact that check-in was seamless even during Golden Week madness, and honestly just how clean everything stays. The restaurant situation is solid too – there’s this Japanese place on the upper floor that locals actually eat at, not just hotel guests, which is always a good sign. Plus the breakfast buffet has proper coffee, not that weak hotel stuff that makes you want to immediately find a Starbucks. One thing that surprised me was how well-connected it is to the business district without feeling stuffy – you’ll see plenty of travelers mixing with the suited crowd, and somehow it all works. If you’re planning to explore both the historical sites and the modern Osaka scene, you’re pretty much perfectly positioned here.

The Hotel is 5 star and the rating is justified. I used services at the hotel like laundry and ate at one of their fine restaurants. Service was excellent and No Western hotel could compare with the type of service provided at the New Otani. We took breakfast both Japanese and Western. The food was prepared very well but the taste was so-so. Not because it was bad but because I believe the Hotel did not want to do anything disagreeable. However the restaurant in the Hotel which we tried was difference. Very special and the tastes were delicious. Ultimately there is nothing to complain about at the New Otani in Osaka. However, except for the Castle and Park there is nothing much going on in the neighborhood of the Otani. But there is "subway"
transportation nearby and you can reach any neigborhood in Osaka or travel to other nearby cities like Kobe or Kyoto or Nara. We visited Kobe and I recommend it. Only about 30 minutes away ( Nara and Kyoto are closer) and the city is less crowded and shopping is also great.
What could be improved: My main complaint was not about the Hotel but the booking by Booking.com.
The contract had in clear print that I was entitled to a free taxi from the airport to the hotel. I did not get that ride. In fact I discussed it with the staff and managers at the hotel and showed them the contract details I had printed out and brought with me. They said "we know nothing about this and you will have to ask Booking.com". I tend to believe the Hotel and what I learned was to book hotels directly and most important NEVER USE BOOKING .COM AGAIN. We travel a lot and you just lost a very good customer.Pedro from United States – 13 June 2025 (9/10)
The hotel matches your expectation for luxury hotel, some of the decor is visibly older, but overall its pretty well maintained. The room is spacious, and facilities are excellent. We travelled with a 10-month old baby and were provided all the essentials for a comfortable stay. The breakfast was decent, not amazing – but considering this area is more business focused it's worth the price if you don't want to have to commute to other areas for a better option. The staff was excellent, plenty of staff around, always ready to help, and with good English speaking ability.
