You know what struck me first about HOTEL MYSTAYS Sakaisuji Honmachi? It’s tucked away on this quiet stretch of Awajimachi that feels completely removed from the chaos of central Osaka, but you’re actually right in the thick of things. I mean, you step out the front door and Sakaisuji-Honmachi Station is literally a two-minute walk – I timed it because I’m obsessive like that when I’m trying to catch early morning trains to Kyoto.

The building itself has that understated Japanese business hotel vibe, nothing flashy but everything just… works. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (the staff spoke decent English, which honestly saved me from my terrible Japanese), and the lobby has this clean, minimalist thing going on that doesn’t feel sterile. My room was on the seventh floor, and while it wasn’t huge – we’re talking standard Japanese hotel proportions here – the layout was surprisingly smart. The bed was actually comfortable, not one of those rock-hard mattresses you sometimes get stuck with, and the bathroom had one of those amazing Japanese toilets that make you question why the rest of the world hasn’t figured this out yet.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it stayed at night, even though you’re surrounded by the city. The double-glazed windows do their job well – I could barely hear the subway rumbling below or the occasional late-night foot traffic on Sakaisuji. During the day, you’re perfectly positioned to explore both the business district and the more traditional parts of Osaka. Osaka Castle is maybe a fifteen-minute walk if you cut through the smaller streets (which I’d recommend anyway), and you can easily hop on the Sakaisuji Line to get to Namba or Tennoji without any transfers. The area around the hotel has that authentic local feel too – there’s this tiny ramen shop about three blocks south that serves the most incredible tonkotsu, and a 7-Eleven right around the corner for those inevitable late-night snack runs.

Honestly, for a 3-star place, they nail the essentials without trying to be something they’re not. The WiFi actually worked consistently throughout my stay (not always a given), housekeeping was thorough but unobtrusive, and the front desk helped me sort out a delivery issue without making it feel like a huge inconvenience. I wouldn’t call it luxurious, but it’s solid and reliable – sort of like that dependable friend who always shows up on time and never creates drama. If you’re looking for a base camp to explore Osaka without paying premium prices for location, this place delivers. Just don’t expect a rooftop bar or fancy amenities – what you get is a clean, comfortable room in a spot that puts the whole city within easy reach.

  Close to public transport, very helpful staff, good rooms – larger than most budget hotels. Free laundry for guests to use. Environment sustainability policies in place.

  The location is close to several restaurants and izakaya. There is also a convenience store located not far from the hotel. Unfortunately, I think the laundry facilities need additional units, so that customers can make maximum use of the laundry facilities. However, I'm fully satisfied with this hotel's services.

  What could be improved: The service from a male receptionist when we arrived at the hotel was terrible! He definitely doesn't like foreigners, he should be working in another field! The female receptionists were very friendly and polite! Other than that, the hotel is good, clean and in a good location! Note: I forgot my cell phone socket and they said it wasn't there! But I have no doubt that I left it there because there was no outlet on the street!

  Great location, close to train station and 7/11 or Family Mart. Easy to get around. Nice friendly reception staff, great laundry facilities on site and nice clean rooms
