But the real charm is being able to step out your door and explore all these tiny establishments that most tourists never find – there’s this incredible yakitori place literally around the corner that doesn’t even have an English sign. The staff at the hotel seem to actually know the neighborhood too, which is rarer than you’d think. When I asked about late-night food options, the front desk guy gave me specific directions to a 24-hour udon spot that locals use, not just the standard convenience store recommendation. The 8/10 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.   What could be improved: We are non smokers & had a smoking room which was smelly & awful. We changed to another smoking room as that was all that was available and it was less smelly but still would recommend being sure that you don’t accidentally book a smoking room if you’re a non smoker. Smell was in the furnishings
