Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Monterey Grasmere Osaka? The name sounds like it should be in the English countryside, but this place is actually sitting right in the heart of Naniwa-ku, and honestly – it works. I mean, they’ve gone full British manor house vibes in the middle of Osaka, which could’ve been completely ridiculous, but somehow they’ve pulled it off without making it feel like a theme park.
The location is what really sold me on this place. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from Namba Station, which means you can stumble back after exploring Dotonbori without dealing with the last train panic that hits every traveler at least once. But here’s the thing – even though you’re in the thick of everything, the hotel sits on this quieter stretch of Minatomachi where you’re not dealing with the constant buzz of the main entertainment district. I actually slept pretty well, which is saying something because I’m usually that person who hears every delivery truck at 5 AM. The rooms have this whole English cottage thing going on with floral patterns and dark wood furniture that should feel stuffy but somehow doesn’t. The beds are proper comfortable too – none of that rock-hard mattress situation you sometimes get in Japanese hotels. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details that matter when you’re actually living in a space for a few days. The bathroom setup is smart (separate shower and tub, which isn’t always a given), there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase without everything ending up on the floor, and the windows open, which might sound minor but makes such a difference when you want some fresh air without cranking up the AC.
The staff here really knows their stuff – they’ve got that perfect balance of being helpful without hovering, and their English is solid if your Japanese is as questionable as mine. Check-in was smooth, and they actually gave me useful recommendations for places to eat that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. Speaking of food, the breakfast buffet leans heavily into the British theme with a proper English breakfast setup, but they’ve got Japanese options too, so you’re not stuck with just beans and toast if that’s not your thing. I found myself coming back to the lobby area quite a bit because it’s got this cozy library corner that’s perfect for planning your day or just decompressing. The whole place has this lived-in feel that makes it comfortable to hang out in – not like those sterile hotel lobbies where you feel like you’re loitering. Parking is available if you’re brave enough to drive in Osaka, though honestly, with Namba Station right there, I’d skip the car rental headache. The price point feels fair for what you’re getting – it’s not budget territory, but you’re paying for the location and the fact that they’ve created something genuinely different in a city full of business hotels that all blend together. If you’re looking for a place that gives you easy access to everything Osaka has to offer while feeling like you’re staying somewhere with actual character, this place delivers.

smaller than others hotel of similar price visited in the same trip in tokyo and kyoto. bathroom area not separated from shower as in other hotels
What could be improved: bathroom layout and would like a little more space in the room and closetLaura from Australia – 11 June 2025 (8/10)
Staff were all fabulous and accomodating. Location with the station and grocery store below was a wonderful bonus. Rooms were very clean.
What could be improved: The rooms are small, like really small. With a baby it was tough as she had no room to even go on the ground. We couldn’t open a single suitcase. If we were traveling just as a couple it’s totally fine, but with children where you may be in your room a little more then I wouldn’t recommend.
The shower head is horrible, they really need changing. It was unusable.Sambare from United States – 1 June 2025 (9/10)
Amazing service! Great rooms!

The hotel was beautiful and the staff at the hotel were great. They were even able to assist when a medical issue arose and accommodated a late check-out to deal with the issue.
We chose this hotel because of the location and the rooms are larger than most 'businessman' hotels like APA.
Speaking of, the location is great, sits above Namba Station allowing direct access to Shin-Osaka (Shinkansen), Nara, and there is a Can-do (kind of all-needs grocery) at ground-level, and a organic grocery in the basement of the building.
What could be improved: N/AScot from Australia – 25 May 2025 (9/10)
The location was unbeatable – 2mins walk from JR Namba Station. Also, direct link to underground Namba Walks to Dotonbori. As well as the OCAT to the airport 5min walk. Big rooms for Japan, awesome breakfast buffet with a view of the city. Very happy and will stay there again.
What could be improved: NILBaris from Ireland – 24 May 2025 (8/10)
Nice rooms, comfy and clean.
What could be improved: Not really the hotel's fault, but really loud cars and motorbikes outside revving the engines until 3-4am – every nightChia-yu from Taiwan – 21 May 2025 (9/10)
Amazing location
Berkay from Netherlands – 19 May 2025 (9/10)
Everything was great overall!
What could be improved: Unfortunately, the hair dryer was as powerful as a breath of an old man (no replacement was available) so I had to buy one outsideJason from United States – 9 May 2025 (9/10)
Hotel Monterey Grasmere was very easy to get to because it is right next to the OCAT bus station where I've booked an airport bus limousine from KIX airport. There is a Family Mart on the lower level and also the entrance leading to the metro station. The hotel itself was very enormous and beautiful. You are greeted with a highly decorated highway and there is even a church building inside the hotel. The hotel staff was very helpful in forwarding my luggage to a different city. The rooms are pretty spacious and provided a lot of amenities.
What could be improved: Nothing negative about the hotel except you'd need to take another elevator to the lobby floor. The hallways on each floor, or maybe it was just the 25th floor was pretty hot and musty. Felt like the heater was on full blast during a 20C weather.James from Australia – 8 May 2025 (8/10)
Very convenient location and staff are very friendly and helpful. Room is well designed for convenience and hygiene peace of mind. It’s nice that the window can be opened to have fresh air.
What could be improved: Almost nothing.
