You know what’s funny about Hotel Granvia Osaka? I walked right past it three times before realizing I was actually staying in the building connected to JR Osaka Station. I mean, talk about being right in the thick of things – you literally step off the Shinkansen and you’re basically home. The whole setup is honestly pretty brilliant, especially if you’re doing that classic Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka triangle most people do.

The lobby hits you with that polished Japanese hotel vibe – marble everywhere, staff who bow like they genuinely mean it, and this subtle background hum of efficiency that somehow makes you feel calmer. My room was on the 18th floor, and I’ll be honest, I spent way too much time just staring out at the urban sprawl below. There’s something mesmerizing about watching the trains snake in and out of the station while you’re sipping the complimentary green tea (which, by the way, was actually good – not that weird powdery stuff some places give you). The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid four-star – clean lines, everything works perfectly, and those little touches like the heated toilet seat that make you wonder why the rest of the world hasn’t figured this out yet. Fair warning though: if you’re a light sleeper, maybe request a room facing away from the tracks. The first night I thought I was sleeping inside a transportation hub, which… well, I sort of was.

What really sold me on this place was how it handles the whole “tourist in Osaka” thing without making you feel like one. The concierge – this older gentleman who spoke perfect English – casually mentioned that Hanshin Department Store’s basement food court (literally next door) stays open until 8 PM and has some of the best takoyaki outside of the street stalls. He was right, obviously. You’re also a five-minute walk from Osaka Station City, which sounds corporate and boring but is actually this massive complex where you can lose hours just wandering around. And here’s the thing about the location that booking sites won’t tell you – you can walk to Dotonbori in about 15 minutes if you cut through the underground passages, which is perfect when it’s raining or stupidly hot in summer. The hotel itself has this restaurant on the 27th floor that does a decent breakfast buffet, though honestly, with all the incredible food within walking distance, I only ate there once. Check-in was smooth, they stored my luggage without any fuss when I arrived early, and – this might sound weird – but the elevators were fast and quiet, which matters more than you’d think when you’re jet-lagged and just want to collapse. It’s not the most Instagram-worthy place you’ll ever stay, but it’s the kind of hotel that just works, you know?

  LOCATION ! Perfect for a transition night from our visit to Naoshima to our departure from Kansai. That means no hassles of travel and stress pre flight! Room was what we expected, quiet and comfortable, with good access to restaurants for casual meals. Our last minute request to store most of our luggage for 3 days while we travelled down to Naoshima was unreservedly agreed to . We really appreciated that. Later checkout was also a bonus.

  Fantastic location that was connected to the public transport and many restaurants and shops.
  Buffet breakfast was great.
  Wasn't happy with my outdated room on the first night which had bad air-conditioning, stains on the carpet and no safe. I approached the front desk and was changed to a more modern room without issue.
  The updated room and bathroom were lovely and very clean.
  Would recommend but suggest you stipulate staying in a renovated room.
  I would stay again.
