First Impressions

Walking into Hoshino Stay 2, you immediately get that “this is going to work out well” feeling. It’s not trying to be something it isn’t — this three-star property in Osaka has a clean, modern vibe that feels authentically Japanese without being overly themed. The lobby is compact but thoughtfully designed, and honestly, the staff’s English is better than my Japanese, which made check-in surprisingly smooth.

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re in Hanazonominami, which means you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough away that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds at your doorstep. The nearest train station is about a seven-minute walk, and once you figure out the local routes (which takes maybe a day), you can get to Dotonbori in under 20 minutes. There’s actually a really good ramen shop two blocks away that I stumbled upon completely by accident, and the kind of local convenience store where you can grab everything from decent coffee to surprisingly fresh onigiri.

Room Reality Check

The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run Japanese hotel — compact but incredibly efficient. Everything has its place, and somehow they’ve managed to fit a proper desk, comfortable bed, and enough storage without making you feel like you’re living in a shoebox. The bathroom is small, sure, but the shower pressure is excellent and the whole space feels clean in that distinctly Japanese way. You know what surprised me? The air conditioning actually works properly, which isn’t always a given in older buildings.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have a nice rhythm to them. There’s no elaborate breakfast buffet — instead, you get a simple but solid Japanese-style breakfast that changes slightly each day. I mean, we’re talking rice, miso soup, some pickled vegetables, maybe a piece of grilled fish. It’s not Instagram-worthy, but it’s real food that actually fills you up before a day of walking around the city. The common areas stay quiet in the mornings too, which I appreciated when I needed to catch up on emails or just sit with coffee for a few minutes.

Why Guests Love It

What really works about this place is that it gets the basics right without any unnecessary fuss. The location scores consistently high with guests — especially couples, apparently — and after staying here, I can see why. You’re positioned perfectly for exploring Osaka without paying premium prices for being right in the thick of things. The staff remembers your name after a couple of days, the rooms stay consistently clean, and there’s reliable WiFi throughout the building. It’s the kind of place where you can settle into a routine quickly, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to actually experience a city rather than just check tourist boxes.

  Staff weren’t involved in our stay which if you know where you want to go shouldn’t matter. The room was huge by Tokyo standards and immediately close to the metro that took us everywhere with ease. The neighbourhood itself had some grocery and cosmetics/100¥ shops

  Great location near metro station. The apartment was nice and clean, with all amenities available. Wifi was working fine.

  good size and beside a station so very easy to get around. didn't see the staff at all but info was communicated very clearly through the app

  it isn't the owners fault, but the area was quite nosy at night with sirens and loud motorbikes so I wouldn't recommend if you're a light sleeper lol

  Comfort, convenient and clean accommodation near Hanazonocho Metro Station. Everything from here is walkable, and there is a Tamade nearby for quick grocery runs for fresh items!

  Well equipped and quite spacious! Had a gigantic fridge to store everything. 3 mins walk from hanazonocho station.
