You know what caught me off guard about the Holiday Inn Express on Midosuji? It’s actually got this surprisingly modern vibe that doesn’t feel like your typical chain hotel. I mean, when you’re walking down Kitakyuhojimachi street – which honestly took me three tries to pronounce correctly – you might miss it at first because it blends into the urban landscape pretty seamlessly. But once you’re inside, there’s this clean, minimalist aesthetic that feels very Osaka without trying too hard.

The location is honestly pretty brilliant if you know the city at all. You’re right on the Midosuji line, which is basically Osaka’s main artery, so getting to Dotonbori takes maybe ten minutes by subway. I stayed there during cherry blossom season (mistake number one in terms of crowds), and even with the city absolutely packed, I could duck back to the hotel for a quick break without feeling like I was traveling to another planet. The breakfast situation is solid – not groundbreaking, but they’ve got this mix of Western and Japanese options that actually works. Their coffee is surprisingly decent too, which… let’s be honest, isn’t always a given at chain hotels in Japan.

What really sold me on the place was the staff’s English level and their genuine helpfulness. Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels where the front desk gives you that polite-but-confused smile when you ask for directions. Here, they actually knew the neighborhood – like, they pointed me toward this tiny ramen shop two blocks away that I never would have found otherwise. The rooms are what you’d expect from a modern Holiday Inn Express, but they’ve adapted well to Japanese preferences. Everything’s compact but thoughtfully designed, and honestly, the beds are more comfortable than you’d think. The only minor gripe I had was that the walls aren’t super thick, so if you’re unlucky enough to get neighbors who are enthusiastic about their travel plans at 6 AM, you’ll know about it. But that’s pretty standard for this type of hotel in a dense city like Osaka. The 8.7 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be a luxury experience, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.

  Located in upscale avenue, near covered street with plenty of shops and eating options, 5 minutes by foot from metro stations. Room was very comfortable, spotless, soundproof, and functional. I did not have time to take advantage of the included breakfast nor the gym, but they both looked excellent.

  We requested a room for 2 adults and 2 kids in Booking and there were only 3 single beds ( too small for the kids to sleep together). We used the sofa but it was not a bed

  Small space but very well appointed. Everything we needed in a small and well organized space. So comfortable. Good location with easy access to transit and walkable but not short distance to Dotombori.

  We were impressed with how clean the property was, great location and the staff is just lovely! The breakfast could have a wider selection so feel free to skip it, the room is small but that’s standard in Japan. Overall great value for money!
