Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “Guest House TIHARU 6bedrooms12people max and Straight to USJ,” I thought someone had a field day with Google Translate. But you know what? Sometimes the most awkwardly named places turn out to be hidden gems, and this spot in Ikuno is exactly that.
The house sits on this quiet residential street in Ikuno-nishi, and I mean actually quiet – not that fake “peaceful oasis” nonsense you see in hotel descriptions. It’s one of those narrow Japanese streets where you might pass an elderly woman watering her plants or kids riding bikes after school. The area feels properly local, which honestly made me a bit nervous at first since my Japanese is… well, let’s just say I point at things a lot. But here’s the thing about this part of Osaka – it’s got character. You’re close enough to all the action (USJ is genuinely a straight shot on the train), but you’re staying where actual Osakans live their lives.
The guesthouse itself is bigger than you’d expect from the outside – typical Japanese architecture doing that magic trick thing. Six bedrooms spread across what feels like a proper family home, and they’ve managed to fit up to twelve people without it feeling like a hostel dorm situation. The tatami rooms have that fresh smell that tells you they actually maintain this place, and there are enough bathrooms that you won’t be doing that awkward dance outside the door in the morning. What really got me was the kitchen – it’s fully stocked with actual cookware, not those sad little pots you usually find in vacation rentals. I ended up cooking more than I planned because, honestly, after a day at Universal Studios your wallet needs a break, and the nearby supermarket (maybe a three-minute walk?) has everything you need.
The hot spring mention in the name isn’t marketing fluff either. There’s a proper sento about seven minutes on foot – I timed it because I’m that person – and after hauling yourself around theme parks all day, soaking in those mineral baths hits different. The locals there were surprisingly chatty once they realized I wasn’t just another tourist taking photos. The train connection to Universal is legitimately straightforward too, though “straight” might be generous since you’ll still need to transfer once, but it’s the kind of easy transfer where you don’t need to stress about getting lost.
I stayed during shoulder season in October, so I can’t speak to how crazy it gets during peak times, but the neighborhood stays residential-quiet even when the city center gets hectic. The only minor thing – and I’m really reaching here – is that the walls aren’t super thick, so if you’re traveling with that friend who snores like a freight train, maybe pack earplugs. But honestly, for the price point and the space you get, especially if you’re splitting it between a group, this place delivers way more than its somewhat chaotic name suggests. It’s the kind of spot where you actually feel like you’re staying in Osaka, not just visiting it.

Very spacious, lots of toys for kids, clean
What could be improved: It’s very dark in the house (it’s a big city, there’s nothing you can do and we should have known better)Christina from Australia – 4 February 2024 (9/10)

It was very spacious and well facilitated (kitchen, bathroom supplies etc.). The location was great, close to a train station and a variety of interesting activities. The host was great with communication and the check in process was easy.
What could be improved: The house does get very cold at night! But there are heaters which are good.稲場 from Japan – 23 March 2024 (7/10)

とても広く、11人で過ごしてもゆったりしていた。
駐車場もあった。
What could be improved: 施設というよりは、住宅街なので当然ですが、家の中の声が外に聞こえやすいので、うるさくないよう気を遣った。
道が狭いので、夜ハイエースで施設に来るのは神経を使った。
