Garner Hotel Osaka Honmachi Station by IHG Overview
You know what surprised me about the Garner Hotel? It’s actually tucked into this quiet residential pocket of Honmachi that most tourists completely miss – I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Honmachi Station, but the moment you step outside, it feels like you’ve escaped the typical Osaka hustle. The building itself is pretty understated from the street, which honestly threw me off at first since I was expecting something flashier from an IHG property.
But here’s the thing – once you’re inside, everything just works. The lobby’s got this clean, modern vibe without being sterile, and the staff actually seemed genuinely happy to help rather than just going through the motions. My room was on the seventh floor facing north, so I got these glimpses of office buildings and residential rooftops that gave me a real sense of how locals actually live in this part of the city. The bed was surprisingly comfortable for a 3-star place (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had one of those Japanese toilet situations that I’m still not entirely sure I operated correctly, but hey – when in Osaka, right?
What really sold me on this place was the location, though not in the way you’d expect. Sure, you can hop on the Chuo or Sakaisuji lines and be anywhere in fifteen minutes, but it’s the neighborhood itself that’s the real gem. There’s this incredible ramen shop called Ichiran just around the corner on Kitakyuhoji-dori – locals line up there every night around 8 PM, which tells you everything you need to know. And if you walk about five minutes toward Sakaisuji, you’ll hit this strip of tiny bars and izakayas that don’t even have English signs but serve some of the best yakitori I had during my entire trip. The hotel staff actually pointed me toward a convenience store (well, they call them konbini) that stays open 24/7 and stocks better snacks than most American grocery stores – saved my life when I got hit with jet lag at 3 AM. I will say the walls are a bit thin, so if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs. I could hear my neighbor’s TV until about 11 PM, but honestly, that’s pretty standard for mid-range hotels in Japan. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it gets all the basics right and then some.

Situation, staff and amenities.
What could be improved: Room on the small side but normal by Japanese standards.Mark from Australia – 27 May 2025 (8/10)
Amazing location, right in the heart of Osaka without being in a "crowded" area. Helpful staff. Rooms decently sized for the city centre. Large and modern common area for work or socialising.
What could be improved: Room a little dated. Hotel on the expensive side for what it was but I did book in peak time.Sophong from Australia – 20 May 2025 (8/10)
Clean, comfortable and great location

staff service ( As foreigner, glad to speak English then staff can understand easily 😀 ). addition facility / service ( welcome drink ,free drinking water, coffee machine service at lobby and ice cube machine service )
What could be improved: in term of bed sizing. I think its fit only for 1 person , but seem like the room plan to sell for 2 person also. it looks to small for 2 person.John from United States – 22 April 2025 (9/10)
Large rooms
What could be improved: Long way from City centerGrainne from Ireland – 19 April 2025 (8/10)
Comfortable, clean hotel/hostel in good location with friendly, helpful staff. Social area is very nicely decorated.
What could be improved: Room (deluxe apparently) is quite small.Nalinee from United Arab Emirates – 10 April 2025 (9/10)
The location is great, and easy to use public transportation.
The hotel is brand new and it feels clean, comfortable and functional.
The hotel provides drinks in the lobby for guests, instead of in the room, which could be used while waiting to leave the hotel.
It is good value for money even if the room size is not big, but it is quite common in Japan.
What could be improved: NothingDiane from Australia – 25 February 2025 (7/10)
Artwork was interesting
What could be improved: Rooms were very small, and amenities (water, hot water) are downstairs in a shared room. Not unpleasant, but just unexpected.
