Gallery Compass Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Gallery Compass? The name actually makes sense once you’re inside. It’s tucked into this residential building in Mikuriyaminami – honestly, I almost walked past it at first because it doesn’t scream “hotel” from the street. But that’s sort of the charm, really. The whole place feels like staying in someone’s incredibly well-curated apartment rather than a typical hotel room.
The location is one of those gems that locals probably don’t even think about, but it’s perfect for travelers who want to experience Osaka without the tourist circus. You’re in a proper residential neighborhood where you’ll hear the morning ritual of shutters opening and the evening hum of families coming home from work. There’s a convenience store about two minutes away – the kind where the staff starts recognizing you after a couple of visits – and honestly, some of the best ramen I had in Osaka was from this tiny place just around the corner that doesn’t even have an English sign. The train connections are solid too; you can get to Namba or Umeda without any hassle, but when you come back at night, it’s quiet. Actually quiet, not hotel-marketing quiet.
What really gets me is the attention to detail inside. The 9.6 rating isn’t inflated – someone clearly thought about what travelers actually need. The bathroom has this rainfall showerhead that doesn’t make you contort yourself to get clean, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your stuff without living out of a suitcase. The walls are thick enough that you won’t hear your neighbor’s phone calls, which is more than I can say for some four-star places I’ve stayed at. They’ve got this whole gallery vibe going on with local art pieces that change periodically, and I mean, it’s not just decoration – it feels intentional, like someone wanted to showcase what Osaka’s creative scene actually looks like. The morning light comes in really nicely through these large windows, and you can see into the neighborhood’s daily rhythm while having your coffee. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no unnecessary upselling or lengthy explanations about amenities you’ll never use. Just friendly, efficient service from people who seem to genuinely care about whether you’re comfortable.

Arthur from Sweden – 27 April 2025 (9/10)
1.The hosts were the most amazing ones: so kind, caring, communicative and full of joy
2.Location is very close to 2 very handy train stations to reach Osaka namba, Nara, Universal Studios, Shin Osaka or the expo 25 in 25 to 50 min
3. The flat was really clean and super well optimized and comfortable
4. Breakfast was fresh, delicious and different everyday
What could be improved: As the flat is quite small a closet to store clothes and luggage would be idealGeziel from United States – 16 April 2025 (10/10)

The hospitality was amazing. The couple in charge is up and about to make you feel comfortable and home. Breakfast included with typical japanese food and delicious. The home is very comfortable and convenience store and transportation very close by. Spacious for a family of 4! Very happy with our last minute choice.
What could be improved: Nothing 🙂Quinn from United States – 16 November 2024 (10/10)
Artsy and warm hosts. In retrospect, I would recommend to take the airport shuttle service offered by the host if travel with a group of people. I love local restaurants and supermarkets. This area will not disappoint you. Explore around, people! We got 7am breakfast the next day. Simple, fresh and warm food healed me. The host couple also helped my itinerary. My travel type is more spontaneous. The host gave me some good ideas. Also spared some kawaii goodies for us. The host couple worth more than 5 stars. Hope you both live healthy, happy and long.

The host couple is amazing. We got delicious breakfast and a lot of useful tips for our journey. Their cafe has a nice, magical atmosphere.
The apartment was comfortable, quiet.
Definitely our best stay in Japan.
What could be improved: Nothing, everything was perfect.Wojciech from Australia – 14 September 2024 (10/10)
The breakfast was very nice, with real coffee for a change. The lovely couple of owners went well over and beyond their duties, helping with good advice and suggestions for what to do when we leave. The visit to Nara was worth going back 25 km.
What could be improved: There could be a courtain in the bathroom to make showering easier.Shery from Australia – 3 September 2024 (9/10)
The hosts were incredible and lovely. So very helpful and gave us so much of information on reaching place.
