Hotel Description
You know what surprised me most about the Courtyard by Marriott in Honmachi? It actually feels like a boutique hotel, not your typical chain property. I mean, sure, you’ve got that reliable Marriott quality, but there’s something distinctly Osaka about this place that caught me off guard in the best way.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying where locals actually work and live. Minami-Honmachi isn’t touristy at all – it’s this business district that gets busy during weekdays but quiets down beautifully in the evenings. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Honmachi Station, and I found myself using three different subway lines from there without any hassle. What I really loved though was discovering this little cluster of izakayas tucked away on the side streets nearby. The hotel staff (who were incredibly helpful, by the way) pointed me toward a tiny place called Torikizoku just around the corner – best yakitori I had during my entire trip, and it cost maybe 800 yen.
The rooms themselves feel surprisingly spacious for Japan, which honestly was a relief after some of the shoebox hotels I’ve stayed in around Tokyo. The beds are these super comfortable platform-style setups, and the bathrooms actually have proper showers with good water pressure – not always a given, even at nice places. I stayed on the 8th floor and had this great view of the city stretching toward Osaka Castle in the distance. The soundproofing is excellent too, which matters because you’re right in the middle of everything. Check-in was smooth as butter, even when I arrived way earlier than I should have (they held my bags no problem). There’s this really nice lobby area where I ended up working a few mornings – good coffee, reliable wifi, and these comfortable seating areas that don’t feel like you’re camping out in a hotel lobby. The fitness center is small but well-equipped, though it does get crowded around 7 AM when all the business travelers hit it before their meetings.
What really sets this place apart is how it sits perfectly between Osaka’s main attractions. You can walk to Dotonbori in about 15 minutes if you’re feeling energetic, or hop on the subway and be there in literally two stops. Osaka Castle is maybe 20 minutes away, and you’re super close to all the great shopping around Shinsaibashi. But honestly, some of my favorite moments were just wandering the neighborhood itself – there’s this whole network of covered shopping streets nearby, plus some really excellent coffee shops that I never would have found if I’d stayed in the tourist areas. The hotel concierge gave me this hand-drawn map of local recommendations that was way better than anything I found online. For the price point and that 8.7 rating, it totally delivers – this is definitely the kind of place I’d book again without hesitation.

Courtyard by Marriott Osaka was hands down the best hotel we stayed at during our entire trip. Marriott properties always impress us, but this one really outdid itself. The room was spotless, beautifully maintained, and incredibly comfortable. The bathroom was especially spacious and clean – such a treat after long days of exploring!
The hotel facilities were top-notch, and the breakfast was both reasonably priced and absolutely delicious with plenty of variety. The staff were exceptionally kind, professional, and always ready to assist with anything we needed.
Every time we stay at a Marriott, it reminds us why we keep coming back – they set the standard so high that everywhere else just pales in comparison.
What could be improved: Nothing to fault!Henry from Australia – 2 June 2025 (9/10)
Location was great for walking, shopping, food varieties and restaurants, the dotonbori area especially, proximity to subway stations.
What could be improved: It seems endemic in the mid range hotel rooms ….. only hanging space available in rooms…. nowhere drawers. So had to live out of the suitcase a little.Liane from Germany – 28 May 2025 (9/10)
Very convenient location, close to metro ( green line to EXPO 2025), plenty of breakfast places, restaurants ans shopping nearby. Very kind and service minded English speaking staff. The hotels public bath is superb with an outdoor pool. Spacious, very comfortable, modern and nice designed rooms.

What could be improved: The toilet and bathroom were a little small for us as. But still very clean.
Selwyn from India – 11 May 2025 (8/10)
The location was okay. A subway station was right outside the hotel. It was a 10 minute drive to the nightlife centre of Osaka.
What could be improved: I would have preferred a location closer to the night life and shopping area.Dk from Singapore – 5 May 2025 (9/10)
Location: Close to the station entrance but do note that only accessible by stairs. Otherwise the other station has lift but entrance is about 500m away.
Easy to take a cab as well
Hotel room size was decent. Had sufficient space for 2 big luggages. Toilet was spacious.
Rooms are not carpeted so great for those who are sensitive to dust.
What could be improved: Breakfast was on the expensive side thus did not opt for it. Though if you request for it one day earlier, you will have a discount.
Washing machine and dryer facilities were ok. But the dryers were not very good. Had to put a longer duration to get clothes dried vs a normal laundromatShireen from Jordan – 11 April 2025 (9/10)
Excellent staff and location. Clean and amazing
