You know what caught me off guard about Color島之内701? The name makes it sound like some trendy art installation, but honestly, it’s just a really solid neighborhood spot that gets the basics right. I mean, when you’re wandering around Shimauchi – which, let’s be real, most tourists completely skip – you’re not expecting to stumble across a place that actually knows what it’s doing.

The thing is, this area sits right between Namba’s tourist chaos and the more residential parts of Chuo-ku, so you get this weird sweet spot where you can walk to Dotonbori in about ten minutes but still feel like you’re staying somewhere actual Osakans might live. The building itself is pretty standard – no fancy lobby or anything – but the rooms are thoughtfully put together. Like, someone actually considered that you might want to charge your phone near the bed AND have decent lighting to read by. Small stuff, but it adds up. The 8.8 rating isn’t just numbers; you can feel it in how everything works without you having to think about it.

What really sold me was stepping outside in the morning. There’s this little convenience store right around the corner that does proper coffee (not just vending machine stuff), and you’re maybe a five-minute walk from Nipponbashi – which is basically Tokyo’s Akihabara but without the crowds trying to take selfies every three seconds. The subway connections are actually better than some of the pricier hotels I’ve stayed at in Umeda, honestly. Sakaisuji and Sennichimae lines are both super close, so you can get pretty much anywhere without the transfer headaches.

Sure, it’s only three stars, so don’t expect anyone to carry your bags or remember your name – but the check-in was smooth, the WiFi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and the air conditioning actually works (which, if you’ve been to Osaka in summer, you know is not a given). The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 9 PM, which is either perfect or boring depending on what you’re after. I loved it because you can still hear the city humming, but you’re not dealing with drunk salarymen singing karaoke until 3 AM like you would closer to the main entertainment districts.

Look, I’m not saying this place will change your life or anything, but if you want to experience Osaka without feeling like you’re in a tourist bubble – and without paying tourist bubble prices – this is exactly the kind of spot you should be looking for. It’s the difference between visiting a city and actually getting a feel for it, you know?

  What could be improved: Its difficult for flushing toilet I think in Japan toilet paper is generally could be in the toilet when flushing. I did that abd it was stuck. Also I think there should be cloth hanger and mirror in the room. I dressed and did a make up but n mirror.

  The location is great! The value for money is great! Clean place and good kitchen. The hosts were good at answering emails quickly.
  
  What could be improved: We couldn't figure out how to get in the outside apartment door on arrival. I am not sure if we missed a message with the door code or if they forgot to tell us.
