Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about City Plaza Osaka? It’s tucked right into Hommachibashi, which honestly feels like one of those neighborhoods that’s perfectly positioned but doesn’t scream “tourist trap.” I mean, you’re basically in Chuo-ku – the heart of everything – but on a street that actually lets you breathe a little. The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense look that a lot of Japanese business hotels nail, though this one’s got more character than most.

The thing about staying here is you’re genuinely close to stuff that matters. Honmachi Station is basically around the corner, and if you’re the type who likes to wander (which, let’s be honest, you should be in Osaka), you can easily walk to Namba or even make your way toward Osaka Castle without feeling like you’re trekking across the city. I actually ended up walking to Dotonbori one evening – took maybe 15 minutes at a leisurely pace, and you get to see how the neighborhoods shift from business-y to purely chaotic tourist heaven. The front desk staff seemed genuinely surprised when I mentioned this, like most guests just hop on the subway, but walking really gives you a feel for how the city connects.

What I appreciated most was how the place runs – it’s got that Japanese efficiency thing down without feeling sterile. Check-in was quick, the elevators aren’t those tiny coffins you sometimes get in older hotels, and honestly, the rooms are sized pretty reasonably for Japan. The bathroom setup is smart too – separate shower and toilet areas, which might seem like a small thing until you’re actually living in the space for a few days. I stayed during what I guess was a busy conference season (lots of business travelers in the lobby each morning), but the place never felt overwhelmed or understaffed. The only minor thing – and this might just be the area – is that mornings can get a bit bustling with foot traffic outside, but nothing that decent curtains can’t handle. It’s actually kind of nice hearing the city wake up, if you’re into that sort of thing. With an 8.4 rating, it’s clearly doing something right, and after staying there, I get it. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Osaka, but it nails the fundamentals while putting you right where you want to be.

Clean and located in a good location. Room was well maintained and pleasant

What could be improved: The bed was a little firmer than what I was used to, pillow could have been more supportive

  • Kerry from United Arab Emirates – 2 December 2024 (9/10)

Great spacious rooms. Delicious breakfasts. Easy to walk there great location to visit nearby tourist attractions and good metro links. Staff were friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • Cheryl from United States – 11 November 2024 (8/10)

Loved the rooms, which were quite spacious, and the bathing area was also very spacious. Staff was helpful. Loved the bed comforter; it was very warm.

What could be improved: There are no lounge chairs for sitting while waiting for friends, as does western hotels.

  • Dean from Australia – 29 October 2024 (8/10)

Short walk to trains, large rooms, short walk to great restaurants, in a business district so you don’t feel like you are in the middle of a tourist trap.

What could be improved: Onsen is busy all the time, business men in the area have memberships so it will be packed most of the day with loud people.

  • Meik from Germany – 13 October 2024 (8/10)

    Great roof top public onsen

What could be improved: The restaurant offerings for lunch were very limited

  • Robert from United Kingdom – 10 October 2024 (7/10)

Good location; bit out of the way so don't stay here if you want to be in the center of things. But meant it was nice and quiet but with easy access to public transport and within 30-45 mins of all the locations we wanted to get to.

Decent sized clean comfortable and relaxing rooms

    Great onsen

    Free massage chairs

Nice panoramic view in bar / restaurant

Tullys coffee (a chain) in foyer for getting the morning going or an easy stop/ chill out area when needed.

  • Rodolfo from United States – 6 October 2024 (9/10)

The facilities were excellent and the staff were very helpful. The onsen was very enjoyable and not crowded which made the experience much more pleasurable.

What could be improved: The location was not too close to many attractions. The rooms were smaller than expected.

  • Mark from Australia – 13 September 2024 (9/10)

The rooms were very spacious and clean. Bathroom facilities were great. The staff were very helpful with any questions we had and all spoke English quite well.
Location is great, with easy access to Metro and JR stations.

What could be improved: The mattresses and pillows are very hard compared to what we're used to in Australia.

  • Cm from United States – 15 August 2024 (8/10)

Fairly central to places I went to.

What could be improved: They advertised a relaxation area but when I went it was no longer available.

  • Ana from Belgium – 6 August 2024 (8/10)

    Locatie

What could be improved: Bed comfort
