So I stumbled across Chikyuutabikazoku USJ during what was honestly a pretty frantic search for somewhere decent to stay near Universal Studios – and man, am I glad I did. The name’s a bit of a mouthful (it basically means “Earth Travel Family”), but don’t let that throw you off. This place sits right in Konohana-ku, which is actually perfect because you’re close enough to USJ that you can practically hear the roller coasters, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos 24/7. The address puts you on a quiet residential street where you’ll see actual locals going about their day, which I always love.

What really got me about this place was how it feels like someone’s cool relative designed it specifically for travelers who actually want to experience Osaka, not just check boxes. The rooms have this modern Japanese aesthetic that doesn’t feel forced or trying-too-hard – you know what I mean? Clean lines, proper storage (thank god, because hotel storage is usually terrible), and honestly some of the most comfortable beds I’ve encountered in Japan. The staff here genuinely knows the area too, which is rarer than you’d think. They pointed me toward this incredible takoyaki spot about three blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise – it’s tucked between a convenience store and what looks like someone’s house.

Here’s the thing though – and this is where that 8.8 rating makes total sense – it’s the little details that make this place work. The wi-fi actually functions properly (I’m looking at you, every other hotel I’ve stayed at), there’s decent soundproofing so you can sleep even when the neighborhood comes alive in the evenings, and the check-in process was refreshingly straightforward. No unnecessary paperwork, no weird rules about towels or whatever. Plus, and this might sound random, but the shower pressure is fantastic, which matters more than people admit when you’ve been walking around Osaka all day. The location means you can easily hop on the JR loop line or catch the subway – Nippombashi station is maybe a ten-minute walk, and from there you’re connected to basically everywhere you want to go. I found myself using this place as a proper base camp rather than just somewhere to crash, if that makes sense. It’s got that sweet spot vibe where you feel like you’re staying somewhere locals might actually recommend to their friends visiting from out of town.

  The house was very clean, quiet and spacious for our family of four. It looked even better than in the pictures. The location is great for USJ with a few minutes walk to the JR station plus a few minutes of train ride. It's also a short walk to the circle line station where you can easily go to the downtown and other areas of the city.
  
  It was convenient to have a full kitchen although we only used it for breakfast. And I appreciated that there was a washing machine and space to dry clothes. There were some toys for the little ones to play with. My nine year old daughter liked them.
  
  We met the host at checkout when he was there for cleaning. He kindly offered us an umbrella as it was raining.

  We loved the style of this house and the kids loved all the toys. There were plenty of beds for the 6 of us.The kitchen had everything we needed. It was also 10 minutes from the train station by foot, which made it convenient for commuting via train. There was also a mix up when we checked in, but the host was very quick to respond to us and help.
  
  What could be improved: The house was pretty dusty ( my allergies weren't very happy) and I could tell some areas weren't always cleaned (under the couch). But, the place was overall very clean, just would have liked it not so dusty.

  Fabulous kitchen and great location in a safe residential area. Close to train station and supermarket. Very responsive host. The washing machine was appreciated!

  This apartment has everything you need for a family stay. My children didn't want to leave.
  
  What could be improved: FYI Google maps plots the location in two different places, so we caught a taxi there from the train station. This isn't the fault of the host accommodation though.

  It was nice to stay in a house and have a common space to hang out together in downtime. The living room, though small, was very nice. The beds were comfortable and it was quiet at night which was nice. Nishikujo station is a 10 minute walk from the house where it is easy to take a train to USJ or Osaka station.
  
  What could be improved: When I booked the house it was advertised as having three bedrooms. However when we arrived there were only two. When I contacted the host they explained there was a removable wall and there are only two bedrooms. Though we made it work, it was disappointing as I felt misled. I hope the advert will be updated to accurately reflect the bedrooms. I also would suggest having English instructions for the washing machine as it was a little difficult to figure out. Otherwise our stay was very nice.

  Big living where you can enjoy coffee or even dinner. Nice facilities in the kitchen. There is also a laundry washing machine. Many towels. Old bath Japanese style, but kids love it.
  Near we enjoyed very delicious yakiniku (Korean style stake house)
  
  What could be improved: There are 2 rooms, one with two single beds and one with 2 double beds and 2 single. Little bit too crowded. There is only one toilet and one sink for washing hands or face. We were 7 people, so there were not enough facilities. The house is not soundproof. Between floors, not soundproof atoll, so you can hear all the noise coming from living while you sleep in upstairs bedroom.
