Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star hotel tucked away in Nishinari-ku, but Bijou Suites Ten completely caught me off guard. The name’s a bit fancy for what’s essentially a boutique spot in Tengachaya, but honestly, that’s part of its charm. When you step off the Nankai line at Tengachaya station – and trust me, you’ll want to use that station rather than trying to navigate the bus routes – it’s just a few minutes’ walk down a quiet residential street. The neighborhood’s got this lived-in feel that’s refreshing after the tourist chaos of Dotonbori or Namba.

The building itself is narrow but surprisingly tall, which is pretty typical for Osaka real estate. What I loved immediately was how the front desk staff actually remembered my name after the first day – not something you get at the big chains. The suites are compact but cleverly designed, and I mean really cleverly. They’ve managed to fit a proper kitchenette, a decent-sized bathroom with one of those amazing Japanese toilet seats (you know the ones), and a living area that doesn’t feel cramped. The beds are firm in that good Japanese way, and the air conditioning actually works well, which matters more than you’d think during Osaka’s brutal summer months. There’s this attention to detail that surprised me – like having proper hangers instead of those flimsy hotel ones, and the kind of lighting that doesn’t make you look like a zombie when you’re getting ready.

What really sets this place apart is the location knowledge the staff has. The woman at the front desk – I think her name was Tanaka-san – drew me a little map to this incredible takoyaki place about three blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise. And here’s the thing about Tengachaya that most tourists don’t realize: you’re actually perfectly positioned to explore both the traditional side of Osaka and the modern districts. Sumiyoshi Taisha shrine is a short train ride south, while you can be in the heart of Namba in maybe fifteen minutes. The morning commute rush is real around here, but by 9 AM it’s peaceful again. I also appreciated that the neighborhood gets genuinely quiet at night – no drunk salarymen singing karaoke until 3 AM like you get in the more central areas. The only minor downside is that room service options are limited, but with the kitchenette and about a dozen convenience stores within walking distance, it’s hardly a problem. Plus, there’s this little family-run restaurant next door that does the best katsu sandwich I’ve had outside of Tokyo – the kind of place you’d walk right past if you didn’t know to look for it.

The futon beds were less comfortable. And the toilet was without washlet. Apart from this, it was clean and spacious. Had a nice stay. My kids loved playing with the toys.

Great location. Although at first you can't tell but we loved that it's in a quiet neighborhood with very few tourist traffic. A good way to get a sense of what living in Osaka is like, or at least a slice of it. Didn't mind the trams passing outside our door at all. In fact, it gives this property a unique charm.

The property was well maintained & clean. Everything worked well for the most part (refer to didn't like section). It has all the amenities a family of 5 needs (kids between 8 – 14) for a short trip.

Easily accessible via public transport. Convenience stores within walking distance and some quaint eateries for authentic Udon and sushi.

Also it is reachable by rail from Kansai Airport without needing to change lines or trains.

Being allowed to store our luggages earlier than the 4pm check-in time is a nice touch. Really appreciated this.

What could be improved: The hot water system: our visit in November meant we needed hot water for bathing/washing up. For some reason, the hot water would come on for a while and then suddenly go cold. Some times, no hot water at all. It left us shivering in the bathroom trying to figure out how to rinse off the shampoo. Maybe I wasn't familiar with the controls. All I had was "On/off" & "set temperature" labels as guides. So I think more explanation on how to properly operate the control panel & use the water heater would be helpful.

Beddings & pillows: comforters were great but the futons and pillows could use a bit more thickness. Not totally uncomfortable though. We still managed to get good rest throughout our stay.

These are really small issues that can easily be remedied or overlooked because Bijou Ten Suites is a very good property, in a nice location. Definitely still recommended for anyone who is planning a trip to Osaka.
