Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Ashe Maison Matsu II in Nishinari, I wasn’t expecting much. The area’s got a reputation, you know? But honestly, that’s exactly why this place surprised me so much. It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street where you can actually hear yourself think, which is pretty rare in Osaka.

The thing about staying here is that you’re genuinely living like a local for a few days. I mean, there’s no fancy lobby with marble floors or anything – it’s more like checking into a really well-maintained apartment building where someone actually cares about the details. The staff at check-in were incredibly helpful (and patient with my terrible Japanese), but what really got me was how clean everything was. I’m talking about that deep-clean feeling where you can tell someone takes pride in their work. The rooms have this minimalist thing going on that actually works – not the fake minimalist you see in chain hotels, but the kind where everything has its place and makes sense.

Here’s what I wish someone had told me before I booked: you’re about a 10-minute walk from Dobutsuen-mae Station, which connects you to both the Midosuji and Sakaisuji lines. That’s honestly gold in Osaka because you can get anywhere without those annoying transfers. And – this is the part that’ll save you money – there’s a 24-hour supermarket literally around the corner where locals shop, not tourists. Plus, if you’re into authentic ramen (and I mean the kind where salary workers are slurping at 11 PM), there’s this tiny place two blocks over that doesn’t even have a sign in English, but serves the best tonkotsu I had in the entire city.

The neighborhood gets quiet after about 9 PM, which was perfect for me since I was doing the whole temple-hopping thing during the day and needed actual rest. You know what’s funny? During the day, you’ll see kids walking to school and elderly folks doing their shopping, and it feels like you’ve stumbled into the Osaka that tourists never see. Sure, it’s not Namba or Shibuya with all the neon and chaos, but that’s exactly the point. When you want to hit the famous spots, you’re still only 15 minutes away by train – but when you want to decompress and maybe grab a beer from a vending machine and just sit in a quiet park, you’ve got that too.

The only thing I’d mention is that if you’re looking for English-language TV channels or a concierge who can book fancy restaurant reservations, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want a genuinely comfortable base in a real neighborhood where your money goes further and you can experience what it’s like to actually live in Osaka for a few days – well, that 8.5 rating makes total sense once you’re there.

  Clean, quiet, modern, no smell, everything was provided. Was a bit apprehensive to book due to low review count at the time but in the end it was great. Overall highly recommended.
  
  What could be improved: Overpaid a tiny bit maybe due to the Osaka expo dates corresponding, it's cheaper now.

  It was quite clean and modern in the room itself – litterally like an apartment in terms of amenities( water kettle, microwave, stove, fridge, tv, )
  
  What could be improved: there was a hard time locating the property since it is not visible on google. and when arrving to the alley that it was in, there was not sign from the street to see it. Its tucked next to other buildings that look like apartments

  The building and facilities were nice, beds were super comfy, room was spacious. i also liked that the hall in the apartment was semi separate from the room and could close the door between the kitchen and beds.
  
  What could be improved: bathtub was a little small but manageable. wasn't much a fan of the neighborhood but it wasn't as scary during the day as it is at night. my own fault for not paying attention to the email location as there are 2 locations.

  The owner replied to the message very quickly, very kind and enthusiastic, we stayed smoothly, and comfortably spent the time in Japan, the bed was very comfortable, the room was very clean, and the location was also very close to the subway. I hope I can stay again next time I go back to Osaka.

  The landlord's attitude is very good!
  The room facilities are very complete and very clean
  There is almost no noise interference at night.
  The transportation is also very convenient. It only takes a few minutes to reach the nearest subway station.

  1.有洗衣機可以使用，中間也有拉門可以隔開。
