First Impressions

Walking up to APA Hotel Tennoji Ekimae, you immediately understand why this three-star spot gets such high marks for location. I mean, it’s literally right there at Tennoji Station — you can’t miss it. The building itself is pretty typical APA style, nothing fancy but clean and modern-looking. What struck me right away was how busy the area gets, especially during rush hours, but honestly that’s part of the charm of staying in this part of Osaka.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s the thing about Tennoji — it’s actually one of the best-connected spots in Osaka, and most tourists don’t realize this. You’ve got JR lines, subway lines, and even the airport express all meeting right here. I watched couples with luggage figure this out pretty quickly, which probably explains why they rate the location so highly. The station connects you to Namba in about 10 minutes, Osaka Station in 15, and you know what? You can even catch direct trains to Kyoto without transferring. Plus, there’s this whole underground shopping area that connects to the hotel, which comes in handy when it’s raining.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was classic APA — compact but surprisingly well-designed. Everything has its place, and the bed was actually more comfortable than I expected for a three-star property. The bathroom follows that efficient Japanese style where every inch serves a purpose. What I appreciated was the decent-sized desk and the fact that the air conditioning worked perfectly (not always a given in older hotels). The windows face the busy street side, so there’s some noise, but nothing that drowns out the TV or keeps you awake if you’re a normal sleeper.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast setup here covers both Asian and American options, which works well for different travel styles. I went for the Japanese side most mornings — rice, miso soup, grilled fish, the works. It’s not gourmet, but it’s solid and fills you up for a day of walking around. The American section has the usual suspects like scrambled eggs and toast. The restaurant area gets pretty crowded between 7:30 and 8:30, so either go early or wait until after 9 if you don’t like fighting for a table.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the kind of place that’ll wow you with amenities or stunning design. What it does really well is put you exactly where you need to be in Osaka without breaking the bank. The staff speaks enough English to help with basic questions, and there’s a convenience store literally attached to the building. I noticed a lot of repeat guests during my stay, which tells you something. For couples especially, being able to walk to Shinsekai for dinner, catch a train anywhere in the city within minutes, and have a clean, comfortable base — that’s pretty much the sweet spot for exploring Osaka.

  Staff was very friendly and check-in and check-out were all straightforward.
  
  It's a bit of a distance from the main tourist spots, but the station is about a five-minute walk away so that's not really an issue. Lots of options for food nearby and there's a Don Quijote just a few steps away!
