Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Aguri Home in Nipponbashi, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that surprise you, and this little gem absolutely did that.

The thing about staying in Nipponbashi is that you’re right in the thick of Osaka’s electronics district, which means you’re genuinely living like a local rather than camping out in some touristy bubble. I mean, step outside Aguri Home and you’re literally surrounded by tiny electronics shops, second-hand camera stores, and those hole-in-the-wall ramen joints that don’t even have English menus – which, honestly, is half the fun. The morning sounds are pretty authentic too: delivery trucks rumbling by around 6 AM, shopkeepers hosing down their storefronts, the distant hum of the Sakaisuji subway line. It’s real Osaka life, not the sanitized version you get in fancier districts.

What really got me about this place was how the staff actually seemed to care about making your stay work. Check-in was smooth – no weird bureaucracy or making you wait around while they shuffled papers. The rooms are clean in that distinctly Japanese way where everything has its place, and while they’re not huge (this is Osaka, after all), they’re thoughtfully laid out. The bedding was actually comfortable, which I can’t say about every mid-range place I’ve stayed in Japan. And here’s something you don’t always get – the WiFi genuinely works well, which matters when you’re trying to navigate train schedules or figure out whether that restaurant down the street is worth trying. Speaking of which, you’re about a 7-minute walk from Nippombashi Station, and once you’re in the subway system, you can basically get anywhere in the city without much hassle. Dotonbori’s maybe 15 minutes away, Osaka Castle is totally doable, and if you’re into the whole Kuromon Market scene, that’s practically next door.

I stayed there during cherry blossom season when everything in Osaka gets a bit crazy with tourists, but Nipponbashi stays relatively chill because most visitors don’t venture this way. The neighborhood has this sort of lived-in energy – you’ll see salarymen grabbing coffee before work, older folks doing their shopping, kids walking to school. It’s not Instagram-perfect, but it feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find. The 8.6 rating makes total sense to me because this isn’t trying to be something it’s not – it’s just a solid, well-run place that does the basics really well and happens to be in a neighborhood that gives you a genuine taste of what living in Osaka might actually feel like.

  • Sittipat from Thailand – 21 April 2023 (9/10)

    I love everything at here.

What could be improved: The bed is not as strong as it should be.

  • Brad__ from Australia – 25 February 2023 (9/10)

    Excellent communication from host

  • Laura from United States – 12 October 2024 (8/10)

It was very large and had 2 toilets. The location was great. Really close to Kuromon, but also on a quiet street to get away from the noise and crowds. The TV had cable.

What could be improved: The beds were very uncomfortable and springy. The couch was also uncomfortable. The bathroom smelled liked mildew, but we were able to open the window to help most of the smell.
The router would over heat which causes the internet to reset every hour or so. It was hard during zoom work meetings. The staff was very prompt in responding to us, but ideally the router would be replaced.

  • Carlos from United Kingdom – 17 January 2024 (8/10)

In a quiet residential area but conveniently located a few blocks from Kuromon market and a short stroll to the main Namba sights. There is a supermarket around the corner and a few eating options in the neighboring blocs. The house had plenty of amenities and everything seemed in working condition.

What could be improved: We arrived at the house on a winter night and the heating was not on -so the place was freezing cold. It took us a while to figure out how to turn on one of the A/C splits, so the first night was not ideal. As a sign of courtesy to the guests, I think simply turning the heating a few hours before arrival can go a long way (as it takes a while for such a big house to become warm).

Also, if travelling with people with reduced mobility, keep in mind that the bathroom, common area and one bedroom are up a relatively steep (but not too long) flight of stairs.

  • Jasmine from Singapore – 3 December 2022 (8/10)

    location & facility.

    What could be improved: Nil

  • Janice from Hong Kong – 23 March 2025 (7/10)

The place was really good. The location was very convenient, accessible to main city most especially in the train station. The bed and facilities are clean.

What could be improved: The first thing problem we encounter is the key in the main door. I suggest better change the key because we're having difficulty to open and close the door. It takes time for us to open
it. We found out there's no english translation of all the equipments. It's hard for other nationalites to use the tv remote, aircon remote and others.

  • Tim from Germany – 29 June 2024 (6/10)

Great location and spacious enough Appartment.

What could be improved: Most of the furniture and appliances are quite old and banged up. Most of them need to be replaced.

  • Guy from United States – 9 January 2025 (4/10)

Closeness to Dotonbori and rail travel

What could be improved: There is a plumbing problem that is releasing sewer gas into the main living area. It may be from the washing machine drain. It was a persistent bad smell of sewer – very nasty. Washing machine was a small combination washer/dryer in same compartment and it worked very poorly. We ended up having to dry our clothes outside on the balcony. Vey cold downstairs – of course our stay was in winter. Steep stairs – unsafe for little ones and adults too.

  • Rie from United States – 1 January 2023 (6/10)

heating floor system, system bathtub, 3 bed rooms and location

What could be improved: shampoo, body soap , just fewer kitchen items

  • Iseul from South Korea – 15 December 2024 (9/10)

    방이 너무 넓고 쾌적하고 좋았어요

What could be improved: 아쉬웠던 점 없이 너무너무 좋았어요
