Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of ryokans and business hotels across Japan, but Toyotsuki in Osaka’s Hanazono area genuinely surprised me. This isn’t some flashy place trying to impress tourists – it’s actually tucked away in a residential neighborhood that most visitors never see, which honestly makes it feel more authentic. You know what I mean? When you step off the main road into Hanazono-minami, it’s like the city suddenly gets quieter, more intimate. The hotel itself has this weathered charm that screams “local favorite” rather than “tourist trap.”
The thing about Toyotsuki is that it occupies this sweet spot between traditional Japanese hospitality and practical comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find. I mean, sure, it’s only three stars on paper, but that 8.8 rating isn’t an accident. The staff here actually remembers your name after one night (try getting that at a chain hotel), and they know exactly which train route will get you to Dotonbori fastest – though honestly, I spent more time exploring the local shotengai just ten minutes away than fighting crowds downtown. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully laid out with proper storage space and these little touches like locally-sourced toiletries that someone clearly put effort into selecting. Plus, the walls are thick enough that you won’t hear your neighbor’s 6 AM phone calls, which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed.
What really sold me on this place was breakfast – and I’m usually the type to grab convenience store coffee and run. They serve it in this small dining room that overlooks a tiny garden, and you can actually hear birds chirping instead of traffic noise. The food is simple but done right: proper tamagoyaki, fresh rice, miso that tastes homemade rather than instant. The older gentleman who runs the front desk (I think he’s the owner) speaks decent English but switches to Japanese when he gets excited about recommending restaurants, which happens a lot. He steered me toward this incredible takoyaki place three blocks away that doesn’t even have a sign – just locals lining up every evening around 6 PM. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you get here that makes the whole trip feel less touristy, more like temporarily living somewhere. If you’re the type who values genuine interactions over Instagram-perfect lobbies, Toyotsuki delivers in ways that’ll stick with you long after checkout.

Wonderful location within walking distance of the metro and airport train, great amenities, comfortable beds and decent sized rooms, ideal for a group of 8 (family or friends, as there's 2 double beds per room) . People who slept on futons reported it was as comfy as a proper hotel bed. The communication was also efficient, really handy to extend stay by 1-2h if feasible so it was great we could take advantage of that. Highly recommend, would stay again.

What could be improved: Nothing 😉Kristen from Australia – 13 February 2025 (8/10)
Was a great size for families / groups. Good to have a washer / dryer and kitchen. Accessible with a lift and easy to find from the street. Large super market just down the road.
What could be improved: The beds /pillows were quite hard. If you like that, then it’s good. Would have been good to have a fry pan and some oil to cook with.Cameron from Australia – 21 January 2025 (9/10)
Great location, easy access, clean and enough space for my family of 7.
What could be improved: Old sponge in sink would have been nice to have a new one. Dryer filter was full/dirty so wouldn’t work but once I cleaned it out worked well. Maybe after each persons stay the filter should be cleaned.Julie from Australia – 15 January 2025 (9/10)

It's located at an exceptionally good spot for a traveller. You can walk in 5 mins to 2 different subway lines and the main train station that connects direct to the airport.
From the subway lines you can choose your connections to get direct to pretty much any attraction in Osaka. Easily get to Namba/Dotonbori, Tsutenkaku tower, Shin-Osaka (where the Shinkansen trains run to Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara etc.)
2 min walk to a 24 hour convenience store. 5 min walks to 2 different major grocery stores (located next to the subway stations). A clean and safe area we never felt concerned about walking around in the middle of the night with children.
So happy with the location and how convenient it was.
Building seems to be managed by a professional company with a support/chat line. There was an issue one day when the water stopped working, and after contacting via the app chat there was someone onsite fixing it within 20 mins.
We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment with 3x double beds and 1x futon. It's important to note that it consists of 1 enormous bedroom with 3x double beds, and the second bedroom is more like a walk in wardrobe with a futon on the floor (and is accessed through the main bedroom). This was a perfect setup to give our teenager their own private space, but wouldn't be suitable for multiple families thinking they are each getting a room.
Beds were comfortable, firm Japanese style mattresses. Everything appeared to be new as the apartment building seemed to have been majorly renovated around 2024.
What could be improved: We had no issues with the door codes but see some reviewers did. Pay very close attention to the email directions, you have to enter the door codes exactly as stated. For the front door it's Big-button, then number code. For your apartment code, it's numbers then the lock symbol.
It's exactly as stated in the directions, but may seem unclear the first time.
We found the noise to be better than many other Japanese apartments. Absolutely zero road or train noise.
However there was a couple of hours where the upstairs tenants had a small child clearly running and jumping like crazy through their unit. As long as there are reasonable people staying around you it would be no issue.
