Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “Sakura Villa” I was expecting some tiny traditional place with paper walls and shared bathrooms. But this spot in Kujo actually surprised me. You’re getting a legitimate 4-bedroom apartment that can sleep up to 15 people, which is pretty rare in Osaka unless you want to pay through the nose for multiple hotel rooms.

The location is what really sold me on this place. It’s in Nishi-ku, specifically down in the Kujo area, which I know sounds like it’s in the middle of nowhere if you’re not familiar with Osaka’s layout. But here’s the thing – you’re actually walking distance to some really solid local spots that most tourists never see. There’s this incredible takoyaki place about three blocks over that doesn’t have an English menu but serves some of the best octopus balls I’ve had in the city. The neighborhood has that authentic residential feel where you’ll see salarymen grabbing beers from vending machines and kids playing in the small parks between apartment buildings. You know what I mean? It’s real Osaka life, not the touristy stuff around Dotonbori.

What struck me most about staying here was how much space you actually get – I mean, we had six people in our group and it never felt cramped. The tatami rooms are legit traditional style, but they’ve got modern touches that make it comfortable for people who aren’t used to sleeping on futons. The kitchen is surprisingly well-equipped too, which matters when you’re trying to save money on meals (because let’s face it, eating out for every meal in Japan adds up fast). There’s a washing machine, which was clutch for our two-week trip, and honestly the whole setup just works better than trying to coordinate multiple hotel rooms. The 8.7 rating makes sense – it’s not luxury by any means, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any weird surprises. Only minor complaint is that the walls are pretty thin, so if you’ve got early risers and night owls in your group, you’ll hear each other moving around. But that’s pretty standard for Japanese housing anyway. Train access is solid too – you’re not right on top of a major station, but the walk to the nearest stop is manageable even with luggage, and from there you can get to Namba or Osaka Station without too much hassle.
