So I stumbled across 時旅ー大正 (Toki Tabi – Taisho) during my last trip to Osaka, and honestly? This place surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away in Sangenyahigashi, which — I’ll be real with you — isn’t exactly the tourist trail most people follow. You’re looking at about a 10-minute walk from Imamiya Station, and the neighborhood has this lived-in feel that’s actually pretty refreshing after dealing with the crowds in Dotonbori.

The hotel itself is this fascinating blend of Taisho-era nostalgia (hence the name) and modern comfort that somehow doesn’t feel forced or theme-park-ish. When you walk in, there’s this subtle woody scent mixed with tatami that immediately tells you you’re somewhere different. The lobby has these gorgeous vintage glass panels and period furniture that look like they were actually hunted down in antique shops rather than mass-produced for effect. My room was compact but thoughtfully designed — we’re talking proper Japanese efficiency here, not cramped. The futon setup was surprisingly comfortable, and I mean that as someone who usually needs a firm mattress to sleep well. What really got me was the attention to small details: the vintage-style light switches, the carefully chosen textiles, even the way they folded the towels felt intentional.

The location is actually pretty strategic once you figure it out. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the major tourist spots, but you’re in this authentic slice of residential Osaka where you can grab incredible ramen at 11 PM (there’s this tiny place two blocks south that locals line up for) and watch the neighborhood come alive in the morning. The staff genuinely seemed to care about the place — not just going through hospitality motions, but actually proud of what they’ve created here. Check-in was smooth, they spoke enough English to handle the essentials, and they gave me this hand-drawn map of neighborhood recommendations that turned out to be gold. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the walls aren’t super thick, so if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs — though honestly, the neighborhood quiets down pretty early anyway. For the price point and the experience, it’s sitting pretty at that 8.5 rating for good reason. If you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual character instead of just another efficient business hotel, and you don’t mind being a little off the beaten path, this place delivers something special.

  No podem dir com era aquest allotjament perquè per un error, no sabem si de booking o del propietari, quan vam arribar a la casa ja estava llogada per altres persones. Van duplicar les reserves. Tot i que l’anfitrió ens va donar una altre casa que estava perfecte.
  
  What could be improved: Al trobar-nos que s’havien duplicat les reserves i ens vam quedar sense aquesta casa, teniem la reserva per 4 dies i tot i que l’anfitrió ens va trobar una solució només va ser per 2 dies i després vam canviar a un altre lloc per dos dies més… erem una familia de 10 persones amb nens petits i moltes maletes, va ser complicat el canvi de cases, ja que anavem a Osaka per poder visitar coses no per canviar de casa. Tot i que les dues cases que ens van donar a canvi estaven molt i molt bé i l’anfitrió es va fer càrrec de les despeses extres que vàrem tenir!
