You know what’s wild about Ryokan Takeya? You walk up to this unassuming building in Takatsu – honestly, I almost walked past it the first time – and suddenly you’re in what feels like a completely different world from the Osaka streets outside. The whole place has this modern take on traditional Japanese hospitality that actually works, which is harder to pull off than you’d think.

The private sauna bath situation is genuinely impressive, and I mean that. Most places throw around words like “luxury” but here you’ve got this beautifully designed space that feels both authentic and indulgent without trying too hard. The water temperature was perfect every time I used it, and there’s something really satisfying about having that whole ritual to yourself after spending the day navigating Osaka’s crowds. What really got me though was how quiet it stays – you’re close enough to hear the city humming in the distance, but it never intrudes. The staff clearly knows their stuff too; they explained the whole process without making it feel like a lecture, just genuine care about making sure you get the most out of it.

Location-wise, this is where they really nailed it. Five minutes to Dotonbori sounds convenient on paper, but when you’re actually staying here, you realize how perfect that distance is. Close enough that you can easily walk over for dinner or late-night exploring, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos when you want to decompress. The walk to Namba takes about ten minutes through some really nice residential streets – I actually enjoyed that little transition between the ryokan’s calm and the district’s energy. There’s a Family Mart literally around the corner (trust me, you’ll appreciate this), and the subway connections are straightforward once you figure out the local rhythm. Parking can be tricky in this area if you’re driving, but honestly, you won’t need a car from here anyway.

What surprised me most was how they’ve managed to keep that intimate ryokan feel while clearly running a tight, professional operation. The tatami rooms have this perfect worn-in quality – not shabby, just lived-in in the best way. Little details matter here: the slippers actually fit properly, the towels are that perfect weight, and someone clearly thought about where you’d want to put your phone while you’re settling in. The 9.7 rating makes total sense when you stay here; it’s not flashy or trying to impress anyone, just consistently excellent at what it does. I’ve stayed at plenty of five-star places that felt more concerned with appearances than experience, but this place gets the balance right.

  The service and amenities were superb.
  Everything was well thought of . We like that they considered every detail of their guests needs. It’s a unique experience for guests.
  The private onsen experience was wonderful… again everything we need was there and even more than what we need.
  We love everything and it made us want to come back again in Osaka and we will stay longer next time.

  you are immersed in the tradition of a ryokan, a comfortable traditional Japanese inn, with tatami floors, futon beds, and even a traditional kitchen for breakfast. All this in the city center! Wonderful. Special thanks to Kohei Arano who made us feel at home and celebrated our son's birthday with a much appreciated surprise.

  Spacious rooms, great quality products for guests to include Dyson hairdryer, hair straighteners and tongs. Fluffy towels. Washing machine/dryer in well appointed small kitchen in suite. In short it’s a mini apartment, did not expect it to be part of our suite. We were delighted with the facilities and the use of the spa with sauna, cold pool and “onsen” was super relaxing after a busy day waking. Lovely breakfasts each morning.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing – I rarely say this but this truly was a 10/10 stay. Perfect for a family of 5.

  The place is excellent, the location is perfect, and it's close to the metro and the center of all attractions. The staff is amazing, and the private sauna and bath are great.
  
  What could be improved: The only issue is that there is no elevator, and we had a room on the 4th floor, which is not critical, but you don't want to forget something in your room. In addition, during the weekend, since the place is close to the highway, motorcycle noise can be annoying.

  Hands down the best experience I've ever had! The entire staff was exceptionally friendly, accommodating, and incredibly hospitable. From day one, they went above and beyond, giving us a delightful tutorial on making genuine matcha – a first-time experience for us. The breakfast was thoughtfully tailored to our preferences, with the staff proactively seeking feedback on our preferred cuisine and style. Additionally, the room was spotless each day with amenities fully replenished, thanks to the staff’s meticulous tidying and cleaning. They also assisted us with our luggage, ensured we had all necessities, and provided fantastic personalized recommendations for local dining spots and activities, making our stay truly memorable. I am very grateful to all the staff and I thank you all for the experience!
  
  What could be improved: The only minor note is that there is no elevator in the building. However, the staff kindly assisted with carrying luggage to and from the rooms, and everything else fully exceeded our expectations.
