サンライズハワイ Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to サンライズハワイ in Osaka’s Nishinari ward, I’ll be honest — the name had me curious about what to expect from a Hawaiian-themed place in Japan. This three-star hotel sits quietly in the Tamade-Higashi neighborhood, and while it’s not flashy from the outside, there’s something genuinely welcoming about the entrance that immediately put me at ease. The lobby has this clean, understated vibe that feels more like a well-maintained local spot than a tourist trap, which I actually appreciated.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what surprised me most? How well-connected this area actually is, despite feeling residential and calm. The Tamade station is just a short walk away, putting you on the Nankai Main Line — which means you’re looking at about 20 minutes to reach Namba or Dotonbori when you want that classic Osaka experience. But honestly, I found myself enjoying the quieter side of the city here. There are local shops and small restaurants within walking distance that give you a real taste of everyday Osaka life, something you miss when you’re staying right in the tourist zones.

The Room Experience

The rooms at サンライズハワイ are what I’d call efficiently comfortable — not huge, but thoughtfully laid out in that way Japanese hotels do so well. Everything you need is there without feeling cramped, and the beds are surprisingly good quality for a three-star place. The Hawaiian theme shows up in subtle touches rather than overwhelming décor, which I thought struck the right balance. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re still in the city — apparently couples really appreciate this aspect, and I can see why.

Practical Considerations

Here’s where this place really works well — it’s the kind of hotel that handles the basics exceptionally well without trying to be something it’s not. The staff speaks enough English to help with directions and recommendations, and they seem genuinely interested in making sure you’re comfortable. I mean, you’re not getting a concierge service here, but you will get helpful, straightforward assistance. The internet is reliable, the air conditioning works properly, and there’s enough storage space for a week’s worth of clothes, which honestly covers most of what I actually care about when I’m traveling.

Why Guests Love It

After spending time here, I get why recent guests rate the location so highly — it’s that sweet spot of being accessible to everything while still feeling like you’re experiencing authentic Osaka rather than just tourist Osaka. Couples seem particularly drawn to the peaceful atmosphere and the fact that you can easily slip away from the crowds when you want to. It’s not trying to be upscale or trendy, but it delivers on comfort and convenience in a way that feels genuine. If you’re looking for a solid base to explore the city without paying premium prices for a central location, サンライズハワイ offers exactly that kind of practical value that makes a trip more enjoyable.

Places near me in Osaka offer convenient access to major landmarks, where visitors can easily reach Universal Studios Japan, Kuromon Ichiba Market, and world-famous entertainment districts in the lively Namba area.

    Near to everything.

What could be improved: Did not provide enough towels for 4 people

The location is very close to the station

What could be improved: Bounce Bath Soap cannot be refilled with the same product 🙁

  • Emmanuel from New Zealand – 1 October 2024 (6/10)

Beds were comfortable, next to a great super market, good washing machine and shower, quiet area, close to tram and subways.

What could be improved: Wasn't super clean – towels damp on arrival, place looked like it hadnt had a proper clean in a while (thick dust on most ledges etc), and some cases fueniture to bih for rooms (eg couldnt open shutters as bed in the way)

  • Audrey from Australia – 17 August 2024 (6/10)

Adequate for a one night stay

What could be improved: The mouldy floorboard. It made the room smell musky.

  • Vedanayagam from India – 17 June 2024 (7/10)

    Facilities and Features

What could be improved: Cleaning charges was too high.. location identification was bit difficult.

  • Tse from Malaysia – 31 May 2024 (8/10)

Simple check-in procedure. Strategic location to access supermarket and train stations. Umbrellas provided outside the room. Great value stay with nice amenities.

What could be improved: Bed too soft, problematic for people has back issues. Poor soundproofing, able to hear the noise of foot steps and chairs dragging from upstairs, sleep affected when it happens close to midnight. Frying pans with spoiled coating, not safe to cook even stove provided. Not enough cloth hangers for laundry. Not enough trash bags.

  • Joan from Japan – 5 September 2023 (6/10)

It was pretty confortable and well equipped

What could be improved: On the pictures the rooms looked way bigger and colorful. A bit disappointed from this point if view

  • Laura from United Kingdom – 17 July 2023 (8/10)

Compact, little bit sparse on plates, cutlery buy otherwise very good. But overall a nice apartment in Osaka with pretty much everything you need.

What could be improved: We had to wait outside in the sun as no instructions received prior to arrival and unable to contact the owner by phone.

  • Sally from United Kingdom – 14 October 2022 (7/10)

It had most things you need, although some pots and pans, crockery could do with a thorough clean – some burnt in food still present.

What could be improved: Some pots and pans, crockery could do with a thorough clean – some burnt in food still present.
Advertised in description as having hot tub jacuzzi – when questioned the response said they were referring to the bathtub. I do think this description should be removed as it is misleading – I was looking forward to a jacuzzi! However, the property was still good value for money.
Attention needs to be paid to pulling out the beds to ensure cleaning is thorough.
A much better description of exactly where it is, maybe a photo of the street and outside of the building, as we had to seek the help of a young man, who himself couldn’t work out where it was, luckily he called at a nearby house and asked the owner.

  • Kristin from Philippines – 30 September 2022 (8/10)

    the homey feel

What could be improved: hard to reach at first, no signage of the name of the property
