Honestly, when I first saw the name “おそば USJ 万博会場近くの宿” I wasn’t sure what to expect – it’s quite a mouthful, and the soba reference had me wondering if I was booking a noodle shop with beds upstairs. But this little 3-star gem in Kujo turned out to be exactly what Osaka needed more of: a place that actually gets what travelers want without trying to be something it’s not.

The location is really what sold me initially. You’re tucked away on a quiet residential street in Kujo 3-chome, which means you can actually sleep at night (trust me, this matters in Osaka), but you’re still close enough to Universal Studios that you won’t spend half your day on trains. I mean, it’s not walking distance to USJ – let’s be realistic – but the train connections from nearby Kujo Station are straightforward, and honestly, being slightly removed from all that tourist chaos is a blessing. The area has this authentic neighborhood feel where you’ll see locals going about their daily routines, small family-run shops, and the kind of quiet streets where kids still ride bikes after school.

What really surprised me though was that outdoor bath they mention – the “露天風呂” part of the name isn’t just marketing fluff. After spending a day getting jostled around theme parks or navigating Osaka’s crowded districts, soaking in that outdoor tub while looking up at the sky… well, it sort of puts everything back in perspective. The water’s always the right temperature, and there’s something about being outside that makes the whole experience feel less like a hotel amenity and more like a proper Japanese bathing ritual. The facilities are clean without being sterile – you know what I mean? – and the staff clearly takes pride in maintaining everything properly.

The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a well-run 3-star place: comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, enough space to spread out your stuff without tripping over suitcases. Nothing fancy, but everything works, and honestly, when you’re spending most of your time exploring Osaka anyway, you just need a reliable base. The 9.4 rating makes sense when you stay here – it’s not trying to wow you with marble lobbies or concierge services, but it delivers on the basics so consistently that you find yourself recommending it to other travelers. Check-in was smooth, the staff spoke enough English to handle any questions, and the whole vibe is just… relaxed, I guess. Like they’ve figured out their niche and they’re comfortable with it.

If you’re planning to hit up Universal Studios or the Expo site area, or if you just want to experience Osaka from a more residential perspective rather than staying in the thick of Dotonbori madness, this place actually makes a lot of sense. The soba connection in the name remains a mystery to me – maybe there’s a good noodle spot nearby that I missed – but sometimes the best travel discoveries are the ones that surprise you in small, comfortable ways.

  Absolutely beautiful place with a very spacious living room. The house is located within a quaint shopping arcade street with lots of bicycle traffic by day, and is very quiet at night. Two different shower/sink rooms and two laundry-and-dryer machines was greatly appreciated for our larger group. The open-air bath is large enough to comfortably seat two people, however note it takes a good 20+ minutes to fill.
  
  A short walk down the street gets you to Kujo station and connects easily to the rest of the city. To the north is a cool underground tunnel going under Ajigawa river. If you go right after exiting the tunnel, you can climb a ladder on the concrete wall and sit by the river.
  
  What could be improved: There is a single physical key for the house. I recommend locking the door, then leaving it in the lockbox before leaving the house to avoid losing it. The provided laundry machine instructions didn't match the actual machine and was a bit confusing to operate.

  宿内は設備やアメニティが揃ってて、コップ等もあり非常に良かったです。
  
  What could be improved: 宿のチェックインの際に、連絡用携帯電話に連絡が繋がらず、30分待ちぼうけであった。長時間運転後であり、辛かった。これさえなければ大満足でした。
