Hotel Description
You know what’s funny about this place? The name – 【天王寺駅まで電車4分】庭園付き一軒家ー杏 – literally tells you everything you need to know right upfront: four minutes by train to Tennoji Station, traditional house with a garden, named Anzu (apricot). No marketing fluff, just facts. And honestly, that’s exactly what you get when you stay here.
I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t your typical hotel experience. It’s actually a renovated traditional Japanese house tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood in Higashisumiyoshi ward, and the moment you step through the entrance, you’re basically transported into someone’s beautifully maintained home. The garden is the real star here though. I mean, you don’t expect much green space when you’re staying in Osaka, but this little oasis has these carefully pruned trees and stone pathways that honestly made me want to wake up early just to sit outside with coffee. The whole setup feels like you’re staying at a friend’s place – if your friend happened to have impeccable taste in traditional Japanese aesthetics.
The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Osaka at all. Most tourists stick around Namba or Umeda, but being in Higashisumiyoshi puts you in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything (that four-minute train ride to Tennoji is no joke – I timed it) but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the constant noise and crowds. From Tennoji, you can hit basically anywhere in the city, plus it’s a major hub for getting to Nara or Kyoto if you’re doing day trips. The neighborhood itself is what I’d call “real Japan” – you’ve got small shops, local restaurants where nobody speaks English but the food is incredible, and these narrow streets where you might actually run into neighbors walking their dogs. I found this tiny bakery about a five-minute walk away that does these amazing melon pan in the mornings, and there’s a family-run soba place that locals clearly frequent but tourists never find. The whole area gets pretty quiet after 9 PM, which is perfect if you’re tired of the constant buzz of central Osaka. Check-in was smooth – they’re really organized about the whole process, and the space is immaculately clean. My only tiny complaint is that the traditional futon setup might not be everyone’s cup of tea if you’re used to Western beds, but honestly, I slept better than I expected. The 9.5 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s one of those places that delivers exactly what it promises, no surprises, just solid execution.

A very good accommodation to go with a small group of friends. However, given that it can take up to 11 people, if you are going with a larger group, only having 2 toilets and 1 shower may become a concern.

We took our baby girl to the trip, this Japanese styled house is super convenient for us especially for the baby to crawl around. It is nice and clean, and in a local quiet neighbourhood, walking distance to the train station. Especially the home owner, great thanks to her and her mom, they provided so much help to us during the stay, really appreciate it. We’d highly recommend the place.

This is a beautiful dreamlike house. Very comfortable, like a little oasis. We absolutely recommend. The location is also very practical to visit Osaka. Rin was very hospitable and helpful 🙂 thank you so much !

Location – this was where I grew up so made me feel like home.
Entire house instead of a hotel room – this gave us some idea how it’s like to live in Japan.
Friendly hosts
What could be improved: Bathrooms are too small and dated.Shomi from New Zealand – 24 April 2024 (10/10)
Clean and homely with a traditional Japanese feeling. We slept on Tatami mats. Hosts were friendly and always quick to respond.

Beautiful place! We were two families, 8 in total. The children gasped with delight when they came in and explored the traditional house. Plenty of room for kids and adults to have down time.

Perfect location for our needs.
Property owners are great.
What could be improved: Bed. It could really use an upgrade. We weren’t able to sleep.Cindy from United States – 10 November 2024 (9/10)
the house was charming, good decor, with thoughtful touches for guests. instructions were good.
What could be improved: The very steep stairs were a surprise. Luckily, we were able to climb and had a strong person who could bring the large suitcases up.Bell from Vietnam – 17 June 2025 (10/10)
育名 from Taiwan – 31 May 2025 (10/10)
